View Full Version : can this be done in cinema and/or real flow
hello peeps i was wondering if anyone knows how to do the fish effect in finding nemo. the one when the fish school together to make images. is this possible in thinking particles. i have been contemplating getting real flow also. would that help achieve the effect. i've got a few people who want me to actually do some of these effects for a commercial for thier small businesss', family matters. i said i would get back to them....
so what do you think?
possible?
btw, they might finance for me to get real flow just for this, so if i can come up with a convincing pitch then its mine. this is where you all come in. please teach me this effect......mmmm.......reeeeaaalll..........flllllooooowwww.

not seen nemo so dunno...any more info on scene would be cool.
but could you use a volume and fill it with particles, then maybe morph the volume?

me didnt see nemo too..but i always thought realflow is only for making realistic liquids  so i dont think its that what you need :hmm:
if you mean the scene where they build an image of a ship for example, you maybe would do it per hand or thinking particles.

Paul Everett also has a free plug called "Crowd" that might work for this.
Should work in 6 to 7.3, not sure about 8. Check out the sticky-ness settings.

you can do it with tp no problem, the way i would do it is have when the particles are born a pvolume node that assigns positions inside of the different object shapes that you want to use to user variables on the tp particles themselves (set that through the tp settings dialog, just a few vectors). then make the particles fly to those destinations using the right nodes (i forget which right now, but look at the example on my site) at teh right times, and you're away :)
edit.. you can also use the blurp node to blend particles between as many objects as you want... blending obejct shapes in poly clusters or anything.. it's pretty cool... might be what you want to do (makes it extra easy).
wow all the replies. for those who don't know what i am talking about check out the review for nemo on the mainpage. look through the pages there and i think you will see a picture of this on page 2,3,4 of that review. thanks for all the replies. i will look into that crowd plug. mdme sadie, thanks again for the help, i will check out your site. would it be ok to pm you for any additional help. i'm not very confident with my tp skills.
also, real flow isn't just for fluids. its basically just a particle system that uses mesh topology of particle collision, then wraps a mesh around the particles with cohesion and other fluid settings. so if one wanted one could export the particles and not the meshes. so you would have just the particles to use.
thanks again all.
one more question, mdme sadie, which tutorial from your site are you referring to? there are so many good ones there but i don't know how choose which one is the one by just reading your descriptions. thanks again.

have a look at the spline node one on the first page, then the moretp spline fun, the same principles can be applied to psurface positon, or pvolume position rather than splines. theyr'e towards teh top of the front page.
thanks mdme sadie. i will mess around with those.
