um... the rendered gun doesn't look a lot like the reference, specifically the nose of the gun and the bottom of the handel. The render is good, but I might suggest toning down the bump a little bit on the floor and lower the reflection on the gun. Another thing the model could stand is some slight beveling on some of the sharp edges. I don't know much about guns so maybe this reference was as close as you could get.

We just to have a floor just like that (including the over the top varnishing) when I was young (although we never had guns lying arround) and I have no problems with the bumps on the floor. Quite right I would say. I do agree with the reflection on the sides of gun. A slight bit to much like a mirror. A bit of dirt on the metal may help a bit as well to make it a more 'real' object. The funny things with gun models is that they hardly ever convey that weird balance between beautifull designed pieces of equipment and horrific tools to kill. Now there is a nice challenge.

Man, the stock footage of that floor needs to be replaced.
And don't swap it out with a checker pattern either :)

I mean if you're gonna use a floor like that, it brings to mind Good Fellas. So maybe add like a mirror and some drugs. It has that 70's mafia look to it.

The model is okay so far, but the floor has too much bump-map. Additionally to that the pistol reflects very strongly and could need a little antialiasing.

I think the floor is fine. you people need to accept that the real world is not perfect, so our CG interpretations should reflect the flaws, i have seen floors with more bump than that, so stop whining.

looks too short to be a 9mm.

The thing is that it is not just too bumpy at all, but the highlights of bump-maps with too high parameters are simply obviously wrong. That was only a suggestion, not more.

The floor doesn't bug me all, its very retro an interesting. I totally agree with unicon's statement about the barrel edge though. Also isnt that whole top portion supposed to be a separate piece that moves forward to "cock" the gun in between clips? Can't see the reference pic to confirm though.

i seem to detect a slight absence of shadow comined with an overdose of reflction on the floor. oh yeah the floor! As the gun is laying on it, this might indicate that the gun had been handled which gives rise to the most excelent oportunity to incorporate your own fingerprint(s) into the tarnishing of your chromium plating (material).
