View Full Version : filling a gap in ZBrush
DaveAC 04-23-2009, 04:58 PM hay my first post here, couldn't see a "say hello" section so....hello
anyway, my question is this:
im working on a model of a bike for a friend, iv spent an hour or so on it and have decided i need to change how the rear wheel interacts with the bike, so need to fill this hole
i did the model in max originally and have only been using ZBrush for about a week, can anyone offer a solution short of going back to max and losing work?
thanks all

Hey,
I think you'll have to redo the base mesh in max.
Remember, the second time you do the same mesh is faster...
cheers
you could fill the tool by retopologizing, but fixing the base mesh might be faster

First of all i think a bike doesnt really belong into zbrush.
Only very few people have mastered hard surface sculpting
and its a real pain. Doing cool harsurfaces in max is way easier and
when done right will definitly look better.
If this is the lowest subd you have id consider doing it in max.
If u got a very low one u can put it into retopology mode (google this part)
and then hold down shift with a very big brush size and drag over your whole model.
This way zbrush will pick up the original topo into its retopo mode so
you dont have to build it all. Now you can go in and delete the points where the hole is
and close it pretty quick.
But being honest. If u havent mastered high poly moddeling in max i wouldnt recommend
doing it in zbrush. Adding loops to hold up hard edges is way easier then hardening
them at every single subvdivision level.

no, iv got lower div levels than this, im doing the bike in Zbrush as more of an exercise to see what i can and cant do. The project doesnt need to be finished for a good while so i can easily start over in max if i cant complete in ZB.
the bike is going to have a quite organic feel anyway so why not play, eh?
also my computer handles the higher polies of Zbrush much more smoothly than max,
thanks for the help
on a side note, i ended up taking it back to max and reimporting
