Title: Dragon fight
Name: Andree Wallin
Country: United Kingdom
Software: Photoshop
Hello guys,
I got a request to paint something on the theme 'dragon vs. modern soldier' which sounded interesting to me, so I decided to give it a try and also try. My goal was to make it as cinematic as possible, Michael Bay style; warm colors, film grain and so on. Really tried to capture the feeling of action, a lot harder than expected but a fun little piece to do!
Hope you like it!
Cheers,
Andree

Reminds me of Marek Okon's work a lot. Which is a good thing :)
I think you should make the foreground a bit brighter though, it's too much of a big black blob now.

Hetacomb: Yes, actually it's supposed to be a bit brighter, dunno what happened when I cropped the file for the CG upload. This is the original:

Andree, another masterpiece! You achieved the cinematic feel spot on. Composition is brilliant. The colours are awesome (reminds me of Matthias Verhasselt). The movement of the beast really complements the whole image. Man, I don't know what to say more. You're a true inspiration.

Andree, very believable, and this is all Photoshop? Did you render out the Dragon in 3D first or is this all painting? The use of colors and contrast is spot on. :)

Great in all respects!
Love the composition...and also the way it makes the viewer feel he is in the path of the coming dragon. Love the way you framed the dragon and main action.
If there is any "suggestion" about it that might improve it, I'd say that I wouldn't take the foreground black so deep...so close to 0,0,0...and that's being knit-picky...
Great job!

I actually prefer the darker one. It's more saturated and contrasty. If you're after Michael Bay, i think the contrast works best :D

who doesn't like dragons?

Call me a composition party pooper but...
The dragon seems to heavy/bulky for a dragon, maybe it's because the image is so confined, or it's the view point.
In regards to the soldiers, two of them, on the left side, seem to be completely unaware they are about to be fried, or out of pose for a dragon attack... it just seems out of context for an image that's suppose to be modern soldiers vs. a dragon. Shouldn't they be crouching or more aware? I know the speed of the dragon is an issue, but some of the guys had enogh warning to get a targeted missile off.
Last, and it's hard to tell due to the view point, but the wing position, vs location, vs height from ground don't seem to jive. The telephone pole seems to close in relation to the wing span... but all of this is related to not knowing where the action is coming from, and what the surrounding area is like.
I'm curious if you considered the layout of this part of a city/town and any placement of soldiers vs. dragon before composing the final image?
Yes, I am anal, I'm in engineering... so its difficult to step back from the nitty gritty sometimes.
I'm also a hobbiest/dabbling artist so you can take my comments lightly, they are related to trying to learn about composition and understanding what other people do to create their work... I'm not trying to be a jerk.
In regards to textures, lighting, the dark foreground, I think you did a real nice job...
Thank you for sharing your work... I do like it.
~Mike
