Hi everyone.

This animation was done in the beginning just for fun, to enjoy animating with "straight ahead" method, I've been improvised all the acting and timming, at the end I was think to add the laptop to use this animation as my "intro" piece for my reel.

Hope you like it.

It looks good, you got some real animation talent. And you other reels show some very good stylized character design. If you could tie together your themes you could make an impressive reel.

By the way, when you say you straight-aheaded this, you mean that you went to frame 1 in your software, posed him out, then to frame 2, posed him out, frame 3, posed him out, and so on?

Hey paulmcg1, thanks for the comments, when i talk about "straight-ahead animation, yes, more or less is that, the process was to improvise all the action in the scene, I don't have an idea to realise, so, in this case there's no planification in the process.
No thumbnails, no planification, I've just put the character in the scene with a falling down, after that I was think in introduce all the elements like table, chair and laptop, so I decided to make a jump and roll in the air and finally all the rest.
If I was have that idea initially in my mind I was planified all the poses with thumbnails to decide the acting, after that, I was put all the poses of my character to define the timming and so on.

Here you have cool links about "Straight-ahead" and "Pose to Pose" animation:

Hey David, I had another question for you...how can I learn to animate like you? The straight-ahead method and getting good animation like you've gotten. Thanks!

Hey David, I had another question for you...how can I learn to animate like you? The straight-ahead method and getting good animation like you've gotten. Thanks!
Well, the answer is simple, you're in the right place, "Animation Mentor", for me is one of the best schools you can choose to learn animation, apart from learn the right way to planning an animation and the workflow. In AM you can find the best animators of the planet.

The Straight-Ahead method, for me is just for fun, if you are in the middle of a production like tv series, commercials or movies, obviously, you will have a script and storyboard to follow, so, for me, the best way to do the work is pose to pose to find the correct timming or to stretch some actions in the time you have to realise it, show to your lead or client and after that refine, refine, refine, and when you'll finish your animation your lead or client will see something different :argh:

Jokes apart, I've learned to animate by myself reading a lot of books, find information in internet and specially seing a lot of animated movies, for me Chuck Jones classics are my inspiration. One more thing, observe everithing around you and take mental notes or make drawings.

Sorry, I'm boring you !!! in spanish: menudo rollazo que he soltao !!! :hmm:

Great movement and rendering! Really enjoyed your other videos on vimeo as well!

Do you mind sharing the technique used for that table jumping out in the scene? I've been using Maya for quite a bit but I have never really figured out how to do this technique (did you hide the table below the floor surface?

LlopisAnimation
05-10-2009, 07:44 AM
Thanks Yacine ;)

Bun, the technique I used to animate the table was very simple. I've just animate the entire table as a group, first of all I was animate the scale of the group to grow up the table from the floor, after that I animate the scale of the table's feet and to finish and add some dynamism I've put a nonlinear deformer to the group, in this case a bend deformer to give some extra deformations.
And thats all, simple isn't it?

Hope it helps. Here (http://www.llopisanimation.com/foros/intro_table.mov) you have a playblast of the table alone.

See you and thnks for comment. :D
