View Full Version : Fur triangles??
nottoshabi 04-22-2009, 08:49 AM Maya's fur looks like triangles in the render er. I tried messing around with the FurDescription attributes. Nothing seem to work to change the flat shape.

OK. In here you can see how the they look like paper triangles, flat.

You need to adjust the "base width" and "tip width" values...

TheNeverman That only makes the triangles wider or skinnier.
As far as I'm aware maya fur is always flat - I could be very wrong though as I'm not an expert in this area. The idea is to decrease the base width and increase the density. If you require the actual hair/fur to have a 3d depth, I would look into alternative solutions. You could possibly try paintFX or maybe even some sort of particle instancing - obviously your would loose a lot of control, especially when it comes to grooming.

RichardColey (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=191205)I know what you men about control. I remember fur in earlier versions of Maya being a lot easier and better to work with. I'm trying to get the fur from Rhino, in Bolt. I'm having problems making the fur look round instead of a flat paper triangle.

with fur, you will ever get the flat aspect because fur is flat... you can only simulate the real furry effect by using the global scale and increase (a lot) the density and maybe the length.
I hope you have a good computer ^^
for a real volume thing, I would say you should try particle instancing or maybe displacement + approx editor...
is it animated?
