Hi there,

Blender is an extremely unknown package for me, used it for day or two, so far I like it a lot but can't go pass one thing: how do I paint alpha value of vertex colors? Using alpha texture isn't an option for me at this point as RGBA vertex colors is what an engine I'm using wants.
I wouldn't mind exporting the mesh to Maya or XSI and bringing it back if I knew what format should I go for. So far tried OBJ, didn't seem to support vertex colors at all (not even RGB). I'd go for FBX but there is no FBX importer for Blender as far as I know.

Thanks a bunch!
Karol

Hey, as far as i'm aware it's not possible to paint alpha with vertex painting, it's only possible to use RGB im afraid.

For importing of files from XSI etc, you could use collada i think XSI has an exporter for that, blender has collada versions 1.3 and 1.4 support, as far as i am aware they both support vertex colours, UV maps and materials (Altough im aware that you probably won't need UV maps, it could help in the future)

Hope this helps :)

EDIT: Just to confirm, collada doesn't support vertex painting on objects. What other formats could you use from maya or XSI?

Thanks a lot Daniel for your help. I'll look in to that over the weekend and get back to you. Too busy at the moment :(
Thanks again!

No problem. Also it might be worth mentioning that the google summer of code is currently about to begin, one of the projects is to improve the collada import/ export of blender so hopefully some features will be added that can help you out with your work flow, completion time is about 3 months though =/
