Hi,

i started modeling with max 1.2 yearsago and then stopped it. Now since last Month i started modelling again and using Max 5 at my work. WOW But how to model a Form like car to have a better control.

Saw many fantastic cars here and my question is:

Are you using (if polymodeling) this subdivision tool in polymodeling or are you modeling the poly and put a mesh smooth afterwards. What is the modern and maby better Technique here?

Thanks a lot

I much prefer to to sub D's. The tool set of an editable poly is superior, plus this will pay off when it is time to animate and you can turn your object subdivision down on the fly in order to improve playback. There are many many reasons why subdivision surfaces have almost totally replaced nurbs as the prefered method used in 3D.

Hope this helps.

Not sure, you mean this:

Either use the NURMS toggle in editable poly object or putting MESHSMOOTH on top of your poly.....

I always use Meshsmooth, especially when modeling symmetry-objects. ....also to put modifiers between the poly and the SMOOTHING (Meshsmooth)...

if you dont need this, use the NURMS-toggle

EDIT: Its the same formula for NURMS and MESHSMOOTH, so no difference
