Title: The Green Man Awakens
Name: Phil McDarby
Country: Ireland
Software: Photoshop

Hey everyone,

I started working on this image a few weeks back and over time it evolved into an image of awakening. I'm always telling my daughter that everything wakes up in springtime, watching the flowers and leaves bud in our back garden over the last month, so the image evolved in that direction. Herne the Hunter calling The Green Man out of his winter slumber - tendrils of his magic reaching toward The Green Man's heart. I can't count how many hours I've spent on it, but the full image ended up being 10000px wide. It is a mixture of painting and elements of my own photography. Rather than go into a big explanation, I have posted a detailed walkthrough on my site here -

http://www.philmcdarby.com/index.php/blog/article/the_green_man_awakens_-_a_walkthough

if anyone is interested in seeing how it evolved. This was my original plate - a tree I was fascinated by, in whose branches I saw an ancient creature leaning over.

Anyway, thanks as always for taking time to look!

Phil

Phil strikes back! Man, I love your works...really brilliant. Your woods are full of mysticism and fantasy. I think to myself: "Where the hell does this guy live? Fangorn forest?". The walkthrough is also brilliant. Thanks for gifting us with it.

Hey Andreas, good to see you man - Fangorn, eh? I wish! You can imagine how blown away I was by the job they did for the movies - talk about nailing it! Hope you're well mate.

Hey Phil you wrote, that you've planning on something like this (and that it's weired i've got Herne as "nick" 8))...but i wasn't prepaired for THIS !...it's awsome, really !!! the king like Green Man looming above the Hunter ;) awakeing to rule again as a king over his woodrealms, love it really and it's fantastic how it all comes together as a"puzzle" (read your walkthrough).

could only vote for "Love it !" ^^ and so i did *g*

I hope i'm gone see more of that stuff !!
