Amazing work rebeca! I think you have got everything spot on: pose, atmosphere, character, materials and lightning. This is definately 5* star material (which is kinda handy, because it's all we can give you at the moment :) ).

My only crits, AA is poor, this guy on the painting on the left is a little bit too distracting, too much folds on her breasts;). Higher number of hairs would be nice, or just painted texture on those from ZB, they are great.

Wow, great style! Love it. Can't find anyting to critisize either.... Your Zbrush sculpt looks quite a lot different from the final rendered results. I guess it has a lot to do with the different hair and the lack of makeup. The zbrush version looks much more innocent. Nice folds on the leather outfit! Perfect rendering and hair and all that stuff! :)

Wow, this is outstanding

The body shape, the pose, the uniqueness of the face - it all works so well. I really like the super exaggerated feet/ high heels too.

I do agree with luki though - i think it would be better without those background paintings.

5 stars - one of the best cartoony 3d gals ive seen in a long time

Thanks Luki, yeah I prefer make only characters without environment but truth is that the guy of the portrait is my boyfriend,Maox..people who know us understand the joke...hehehe:rolleyes:

About the hair ,well I modeled the hair in Zbrush but it doesn´t looks very nice in the final render so I worked with hair & fur because I wanted to do a hair style more masculine like a boy and more trendy too.

hey BRo I loveee your WOrkkkkk So good hey i'm maya User.. and i have problem to style the hair and i don't know HOW to MAKe the eyelashes and the eyebrow with FUR or with curve CAn you help me with this...????

Hi D4riel, I think hair in Maya is very similar to 3D MAx, but I don´t know, I never used this software so here are some captures and parameters about the hair.Really It isn´t complicated but the render time....:banghead:

Wow!

84 posts and no critics on the subject itself? Just drooling how great everything looks? Is there something like a consciousness out there?

Mixing 3D, eroticism and fascism seems to be hip and socially accepted again. As long as the form is appealing the subject doesn't matter anymore.

Anybody out there who actually talked to a survivor of Auschwitz? I did have the chance to care for an old jewish lady in my civil service days who actually survived this hell. How could I explain to her that young people who are old enough to have a proper education and mental consciousness comment in such an euphoric way on this image without having a bad feeling in their guts that there's something terrible wrong here???

The insensitive way in which the image creator uses the fascistic symbols is rather sad. As long as it draws frantic attention and comments no trick seems to be too cheap as one wouldn't use it.

Very disappointing ...

Chokmah
04-27-2009, 08:17 PM
Some members of my own family was members of the 'resistance '....
And I don't see anything fascist here.

Just a good looking lady, in uniform that gives her authoritarian character.

To me it isn't a good thing to make quick conclusion about symbols in this picture and so about its author .

This is just a picture, with no fascist symbols that can be blamed IMO

More than that, It's a great picture ;)

I suppose Gerald Scarfe and Pink Floyd suck too?
Sorry, never a big fan of either.

My mother was married to a nazi soldier in WW2, she didn’t “suck”.

The glorification of that kind of shit more than simply sucks.

Think. Think. Think.

aleph-zahir
04-28-2009, 02:17 AM
Does that glorify nazism?

I'm not so sure.

I don't really think fascism is a particular way of dressing, I think it's more a way of behaving.

I can't see anything about the character which suggests she would support an ultra-nationalist single party state, or advocate spreading propaganda to create feelings of fear and hatred against an ethnic minority scapegoat, or hijack the christian church to convince people that god wants war, or instigate a program of industrial brutality and murder.

So I assume that you must be referring to the painting in the background?

I can see that it does look like a nazi uniform on the guy in the painting, but I'm not sure how glorified it is. He looks more confused and disapproving than glorious in my opinion.

It's an unusual choice, but I'm reluctant to jump to the conclusion that it glorifies fascism to include it in the background of this picture. If the painting wasn't there would you still have thought it was a fascist image?

I assumed it was there as contrast rather than corroboration, perhaps a comment on the modern changes in gender roles since the period of the painting. I certainly don't think a real live nazi would approve of the character. I'd assume fascists prefer women to be subservient housekeepers and factories to produce the next generation of the master race.

But of course I do not have the same cultural background as you. My most direct knowledge of that regime comes from my grandfather's stories about killing them and trying to escape from their concentration camps, so perhaps I don't know enough about nazis to interpret it that way.

Pancho
04-28-2009, 05:13 AM
As far as I can tell the guy in the background wears some kind of Wehrmacht uniform with the rank of an officer. So never mind him.

But the way she's dressed gives us several references to the Gestapo and the SS. Never mind whether it's leather or latex, but the black leathery material on one hand resembles the long black leather coats of the Gestapo (secret german police, instrument of the facist state) while the black color in general refers to the SS uniforms ("manucatured from 1932 on by Hugo Boss", source Wikipedia.de). SS is the abbreviation of Schutz Staffel, once Schutztrupp Adolf Hitler, which became the paramilitary branch of the NSDAP, responsiple in many ways for the holocaust.

Never mind if there is a swastika or not, the white/black/red armband is a rip-off of the original swastika armband.

This uniform, and thereby the doll itself do solely work because of the link to the original uniform and what it resembles - the pain and death of millions and individuals. As I said before. A little bit of sex, a little bit of pain/violence (whip) and a little bit of facism and the cookie dough is ready to model and render out an image which actually made it into the choice gallery.

If you feel comfortable to comment on the picture in the same enthusiastic ways like you (plural) did here on the forum in front of a survivour/victim of the 3rd Reich/holocaust, than fine. But I suggest than there's something terrible wrong ...

Why do people get blinded so easily by form itself and seem to forget all they know about the subject itself?

Pancho
04-28-2009, 05:16 AM
I don't really think fascism is a particular way of dressing, I think it's more a way of behaving.

Both, but why do you think right wing skinheads look like they do? Their kind of uniform is of course used as an element to show of their attitude and thereby tries to put fear into their opponents.

Fashion wouldn't work if cloth doesn't express anything.

Great Model, but those high heels are way to unrealistic. She will look better if you lower the high heels to a realistic height. Constructive criticism. do what you will with it.

aleph-zahir
04-28-2009, 11:11 PM
But the way she's dressed gives us several references to the Gestapo and the SS. Never mind whether it's leather or latex, but the black leathery material on one hand resembles the long black leather coats of the Gestapo[....] while the black color in general refers to the SS.
That seems like a pretty tenuous link to me. If you search google for images relating to "pvc fetish clothing" you will find that the majority of it shares this colour scheme. Black and white highlighted with red isn't exclusively nazi in my opinion. I expect most people would just think "bondage" rather than "facist". It reminds me a bit of the (media-exagerrated) outcry from a small but predictably loud minority in the UK at the moment. A herd of cattle in Devon of a type which were originally bred by nazis has been hailed by the more reactionary media as "nazi cows". But just because nazis once kept them, I don't agree that the cows themselves are inherently bad. Never mind if there is a swastika or not, the white/black/red armband is a rip-off of the original swastika armband. So a swastika armband without a swastika is still nazi? I don't follow. Is it the colour scheme again? This uniform, and thereby the doll itself do solely work because of the link to the original uniform and what it resembles - the pain and death of millions and individuals.I don't see how you could know that. If you feel it has nazi connotations, how can you be so sure that people who don't see that would feel it didn't work? It seems like you're saying that all of the people who said they thought it did work were only saying that because they associated it with nazism. Also, it doesn't resemble "the pain and death of millions", it (arguably) resembles a uniform used by a minority of the forces of a regime which caused "the pain and death of millions". Which I don't think is the same. Not everyone who wears a red and yellow armband is in chairman mao's red guards. Not everyone in a turban and long black robe is a muslim extremist. Not everyone who wears green clothes and a flat cap is in the khmer rouge. If you feel comfortable to comment on the picture in the same enthusiastic ways like you (plural) did here on the forum in front of a survivour/victim of the 3rd Reich/holocaust, than fine. But I suggest than there's something terrible wrong ...I think people who actually experienced it would be more concerned with the ethics of the holocaust than what style of clothing they wore. At least that's my impression from speaking to them. But as I said previously, I don't have the same cultural background as those who are objecting. Perhaps if I did, I'd feel bad about anything which reminded me of the shameful acts which took place in that time and place. Why do people get blinded so easily by form itself and seem to forget all they know about the subject itself?Because of the way people decide what the subject is. Many people seem to have taken the subject to be a dominatrix of some sort. You believe that the subject is nazism, and therefore can't tolerate it, which is fair enough. For people who don't immediately think "nazi" based on someone's appearance, surely you can see how they would be more tolerant of the image?

I'm curious how you think the image should be modified to avoid triggering this response?

aleph-zahir
04-28-2009, 11:27 PM
Both, but why do you think right wing skinheads look like they do? Their kind of uniform is of course used as an element to show of their attitude and thereby tries to put fear into their opponents.

Right wing skinheads dress similarly to each other, but then so do non-fascist people who listen to punk music, even ethnic minorities who listen to punk music.

I just don't think a few elements of similarity to a particular group, especially without exhibiting any of the behaviours of that group, should be grounds for assuming you know what someone is like. I think that sort of intolerance of the way people look without considering how they behave will mislead you more often than it informs you correctly.Otherwise you're in danger of mistaking chemotherapy patients for "skinheads", catholic priests for the SS and the german red cross for nazi infantry.

Nice character, nice blend of cartoonism and realism

Pancho
04-29-2009, 06:40 AM
The way by which you look at the image, dissecting it into parts which on their own seem to be innocent, you can come to the conclusion that this image has nothing to do with neither the third Reich, fascism, eroticism or anything.

You look like it as the ingredients of the cake would still be in the grocery shop, separated by shelves, without any visible or contextual connection. But the dough has been already mixed and now the ingredients form the cake. Tearing the ingredients apart can lead us to certain interesting conclusions, but for judging the image you need look at them all at once.

Is red a color which always cries out fascism? In general, no. But an artist can very well evoke fascism in a piece of art by using red in subtle or apparent ways. Art can't be art without other pieces of art it is referring too. And life is certainly a piece of art.

As much as this flag in the image resembles the Hakenkreuzfahne (flag) of the third Reich, the dress of the doll is a rip off of an SS uniform. The background of the image is just too obvious, as someone could mistakenly believe it is an ancient chinese dress.

Hey Pancho, dont you think that image glorify nuclear weapons:

http://features.cgsociety.org/newgallerycrits/g72/116272/116272_1210017102_large.jpg

"Atomic bomb is fun man! Look at that one! Like a clown man, hahaha, it looks like a clown!"

Ok, sarcasm mode off.

I get your point Pancho, and i think you're right, but i think what is really important it's intentions. I think it wasn't Rebecca intention to glorify nazism. Of course thes image can be offensive for some people, but you know, it's hard to not offend anyone these days.

Subject of this image can be controversive if you want that, exactly like subject of image from your gallery. "If you feel comfortable to comment on the picture in the same enthusiastic ways like you (plural) did here on the forum in front of a survivour/victim of the Hiroshima/Nagasaki, than fine. But I suggest than there's something terrible wrong ..."

Edit: I'm a polish, and i'm not offended, but maybe it's just me.

Peace, man!

Pancho

BTW, did you come across the black sun and the eagle on the tattoo? The black sun is used nowadays as a replacement for the swastika in fascist organizations.

http://www.heise.de/tp/r4/artikel/25/25371/1.html

The creator of this image either glorifies fascism - at least the aura and power of fascism - or she's just ignorant, using symbols and content she knows nothing about. But coming from a country that suffered from franco-fascim itself, I'd say this is rather unlikely.

Neither of both alternatives shouldn't be honored by a frantic crowd.

Sorry, never a big fan of either.

You sir, are the minority.

You know, your opinion isn't the final say here, and there's plenty of subject matter here that glorifies things that aren't "PC". But once you get out of your little box you live in, and stop talking down to people, because you think you're god, then maybe you'll open your eyes and see that art isn't suppose to have limits, even if some goon online thinks there is.

Lovely picture, Its really nicely done. I'm a bit discouraged by some peoples response though. I think the nazi dominatrix image fits very well with the idea of a twisted doll. this is satire to me not a promotion of ideology

I guess these things mean different things to different people.. maybe everyone should keep that in mind.... I think Luki summed it up

OK...I´m going to finish with this now...first, sorry my horrible english, it is so bad.

I thank everyone who supported the image... for people that think that this is a glorification to Fascism I say this:

You can say you don´t like it, of course but can you judge? you don´t knows me and you don´t know that I want express here.. have you asked me? NO and and I will not explain anything because obviously prefer to listen to yourself.

The question is not if she is a fastist or not, really the question is other. There are many things we do not understand and we do not like, sex was clean until someone said it was dirty, the Roman Empire killing Christians because they were different and paradoxically after The Inquisition killed and tortured a lot of people in the name of Christ.
Ignorance or not all people here knows what happened in the Holocaust, some thing horrible that still happening, thousands of innocent people die every day, women by their husbands, wars, hunger ...There are films, books, music, pictures, videogames about violence and killings then should we burn them because they incite violence and glorify murders? The truth is murderers are bad and crazy people.

What is offensive or not? Are offensive books like American Phycho ,History of O,The Age of Lulu ...films like Nigh Porter, Salon Kitty, Belle the Jour, Secretary, all gore, terror, pornography..etc..etc ??? All is relative and diferent for each person but we can not judge the art although we don´t like something

Most wars begin with ignorance and false offenses," I don´t like this picture, I don´t like this film, I don´t like your religion, I don´t like the colour of your skin, I don´t like your opinion, I don´t like you..
Intolerance is the base of Fascism and for me the Fascists are you.

But don´t worry I will not post anything on this forum or Zbrush Central for the same reason, I will post in my blog , my portfolio and other sides of open mind.

Enjoy!!,

Rebeca

Edit: I'm a polish, and i'm not offended, but maybe it's just me.

I'm not offended either by this pathetic approach to distribute nazi-chic. I'm just a bit disappointed that people do fall for it and don't seem to get it at all.

P.S.: I wonder what is actually still offending to some of us here. The last holy grail seems to be child pornography where everybody agrees that this is intolerable. But fascism seems to be socially acceptable again.

P.P.S.: Not every mob of pixels on the screen or paint on the canvas is art.

Pancho - seriously WTF?
Can you answer me, does your image meaning is "nuclear weapons=fun", "Hiroshima and Nagasaki - best circuses in the world". Well? I hope not. I understand what you're talking about, but you are going much too far.

Pancho
04-29-2009, 03:51 PM
Sorry, but that sounds rather naïve.

First of all, we don't need you to explain this image to us. You are talking to us and expressing yourself through the image you posted. No need for background story. If your image can't communicate your intension, than it is a bad image.

If the image is part of a series which sheds another light on the story, than you shouldn't have posted it in the first place, as you should have known that your image won't work on its own.

Crying out for tolerance and acceptance in this case and blaming those who not go "hip-hip-hurra" but rather express their doubts and horror that you use fascistic iconography in a rather unconsidered way is an unbounded cheek. That you have the nerve to call those of us fascists shows that you have no clue of what you are talking about.

Freedom of speech is nothing I will give away because some Fräulein is upset because I do not go conform with her.

Luki -seriously WTF? Is this the Nagasaki/Hiroshima or the Nazi doll thread?

I'm not playing who's free of guilt shall cast the first stone here with you. You should know that there are enough fascists there these days in France, Germany, Poland, Russia, etc. as that one could/should take this subject lightly.

aleph-zahir

Well, I still think you're over-reacting.

I understand that it may be more normal to do so in your culture, but it also seems that it's making you a bit intolerant.

Some of my (less reasonable) family members do a similar thing. We're descended from african slaves via the plantations of the carribean, and there are one or two of them who are so hyper sensitive that they insist on interpreting anything they don't like as racist or anti-black.

Do you honestly think the world would be a better place if anything featuring stylised uniforms in this colour scheme were censored?

Personally I don't.

How would you modify the image to make it more tolerable?

I think it's the behaviour that those colours (through no fault of their own) have become associated with (in the minds of nazi experts) that are bad.

Now if she was persecuting minorities, or insisting that only one type of appearance could be beautiful, or trying to prevent free expression, or trying to destroy all other world-views, then I would think it was fascist.

Wow..wow ..wow Pancho!! you are really bad boy...what is this picture about the nuclear boms???..do you think it is a beautiful picture?? some thing that represented the dead of a lot of people? I don´t know if posible that you imagen not explain well that you want say ...

How you say if you need explain a picture is posible that it is not good or other posibility is who see it is not very inelligent for understand it.

but wait!! the other imagen of fat giraffe..nice I´m sure that fat people with problems of obsity is really happy of this joke...are you making fun of obese people?

This is the post of my doll that you want call her nazi well I want talk about your Hiroshima work ...don´t like it? oooooooohhhhhhhh.....I´m so sorry

Pancho

I didn't have censorship in mind. I think it's cool that she can post her images here and show it to the public. Of course nothing gets better if you prohibit things. That's the reason that I even consider the internet censorship here in Germany which attempts to make it more difficult to get hold of child pornography a terrible mistake. It's just the first step to further censorship and pedophiles will get their stuff just from somewhere else. It won't help the victims.

What I think is disturbing is the enthsiasm in the comments and lack of understanding of the poster towards the subject itself. Bringing dolls (=nice and cute) and fascism (=evil) together with a little bit of erotic doesn't hold any critical message for the spectator. It's a hollow image that exploits the aura of the third Reich to provoke evil as the poster fails to evoke evil without the help of these insignias.

This image goes the same way like Joe Camel, flying to deep than the mental radar could track it. You end up with kids or grown ups who like to smoke or start to think that fascism couldn't be that evil.

We just did have a cardinal here in Europe who denied the holocaust, brought back by the pope into the catholic church. I don't need anymore of this sh.. and neither do the asylum seekers here in Germany or colored people who get tracked down by fascists, some of them beaten to death.

The question is not if it makes the world better if we censor this image, the question is how does this image make the world better?

Trinnity
04-29-2009, 05:47 PM
The question is not if it makes the world better if we censor this image, the question is how does this image make the world better?

I don´t want to make a world better with my image...why? it is only a picture no more, the pornographis film make the word better?? a gore films? a comic manga? a videogame? your pictures??

If you want a better place you can to be doctor or help to people with a lot of problems and misery

Really you can continuos this discussion with others millions of posts if you feel better...but it will be the same

Pancho
04-29-2009, 06:03 PM
I'm just stunned that you don't talk in any way about your image, but rather hold up postmoderism's slogan "Everything goes!" to make your image untouchable or point with your finger at others to put your own work into perspective to relativize its content.

aleph-zahir
04-29-2009, 06:05 PM
The question is not if it makes the world better if we censor this image, the question is how does this image make the world better?

People get enjoyment from looking at it. (And by enjoyment, I don't mean the kind of enjoyment Mengele got from experimenting on innocent people, in case you wondered)

Bringing dolls (=nice and cute) and fascism (=evil) together with a little bit of erotic doesn't hold any critical message for the spectator.

I don't agree with that appraisal of how the image is balanced. You seem to be suggesting it's predominantly cute/fascist with a small amount of eroticism.

I'd suggest that most people would think it was erotic first (but not like Eva Braun, in case you wondered) and a little bit cute (but not like a member of the hitler youth, in case you wondered) a distant second. Then perhaps slightly fascist a quite indirect third (and by third, I don't mean the third reich, in case you wondered).

Perhaps if you weren't obsessed with nazis the image would communicate more to you. (and by communicate, I don't mean like the propaganda of Goebels, in case you wondered).

Pancho - Calm down. This is a concept, not a political statement. The artist has taken a theme and used it as inspiration. It doesn't deny history. :)

PapaNinja

Pancho, it's a fetish dress. SM world refered frequently to SS uniform (I don't said it's a good thing, it's a fact ...). Rebeca only used fetish/bondage's code.

You're over-reacting, even if I know it's a sensible subject. As said Aly, it's not political forum and I'm sure that Rebeca don't want to send a political message.

And ask you why you're the only one who react like this ^^

Any more posts involving politics and I will have to start banning people. First and last warning.

Some here are way overreacting to a well executed picture involving a stylized woman in a dominating role. In my eyes the symbology only serves to accentuate that, not to condone facism.

Yes, the rating system is undergoing some changes to prevent malicious downvoting (giving 1 star on a 5 star image just to bring the average down). It's still an ongoing process that'll probably be tweaked more.

this thread leaves a pretty odd taste in my mouth.

the subject of the image is definitly provocative. not meaning its erotic statement, but its political position.
then someone comes up asking for a discussion on the symbolic and the fact that this is not a topic only worth fanboy statements like "wow, this is sooo coool!" or "great legs" and all he gets is heavy bashing, or people just tell him to calm down.

Pancho did not criticise the picture nor its content. He only wanted to have a discussion that leads a bit further than just commenting on the aesthetic and technical points. He showed very profoundly, but without beeing judging, that the symbolic used is not innocent. He would not have needed to do this kind of argumentation, because the nazi reference is obvious and intended. But noone in here seems to want to face that provocation and just looks at the kinky side of the uniform.

Yes we are all adults and we know that there is the whole BDSM and fetish-world, playing with military and nazi symbolism. The fact that this exists and that it is used "just as a sexual roleplay" doesnt trivialize the thematic.
Max Mosely had his fun with his NS-playmates, refusing the nazi cruelities as his grandfather did. What a shame this man is still holding his position in the F1 circuit.

I write this message not to judge on Rebeccas image, actually I am a big fan of it.
I love the erotic feeling and also the tension laying in its message.
Something like "do I want to get turned on by something that should turn me off"?

But I am not pleased with how the discussion is held in here.
I think there is a provocation in the subject and it would have been very easy for the author, to just state that the tension created by it is intended. This would have been the most logical explanation for the use of symbolic.

Refusing this symbolism or playing it down, is not only ignorant, but makes me want to ask
what else is the intention of displaying a nazi uniform in such an attractive way?

Yes there is a cultural background to this thread.
Pancho is german. Me I am austrian.
In our countries we were educated to be very aware of our past and to be aware of its origins. "Wehret den Anfängen!"

There are other countries in europe - like Spain - that never had this kind of cleaning process with their fascistic past and made it very easy for all kind of radical political positions to be tolerated. The movie Hafners Paradise (http://www.toytowngermany.com/lofi/index.php/t80624.html) giving a documentation of a former nazi, living in south spain, spreading his ultra right statements and beeing a well respected member of the society he is living in was pretty scary to me. Dont think you could live this rightwing views in a public way in nowadays germany.

It would be really interesting if it is just our over-senitive background of comming from the original agrassor states that makes us feel uncomfortable with the lightweight way this topic is dealt with, or if this symbolism just got more and more clubable over the years.

So lets have another beer ... or make it three (http://static.twoday.net/dorobiro/images/drei-bier-bitte.jpg)

I like this picture, twisted dolls: mistress lili, i like it because of what she is wearing and her whole style...i wanted to get my hair cute like hers. The colors she are wearing are my favorite color coordinates. Her outfit makes me think of a holloween costume i always would want to wear. She has a tattoo on her leg where i wanted one. Another person also said "...a marvelous picture!" "...your style is amazing". Even though i would never wear hills that high, or a skirt of such, the wardrobe is still great and stylish. I can kind of recognize the pictures in the background, the men are looking at her as if she is the queen. She also had a whip like she is a dominator.

I'd be scared to upset her. lol You should have it sculpted and sold, I'd buy 1 or 2.

Great work, but her left foot looks unusually bent.

great work, just two nibbles, Why is there no swastika as this is clearly a nazi?( you probably live in a country were this historical sign is still considered to potent?) and why isnt she blond :P

Its just a representation of that idea with a more Dominatrix/Mistress character in mind. As the title of the piece suggests as well its 'Twisted'

The darker hair is better and suits it, I dont think it needs to be blond to make it stereo typed as a 'nazi'.

Just my thoughts

This is one of the most awesome characters I've ever seen! Love those PVC textures on clothing!

Great work! I really like how bold the image is, There is something about the colour scheme of nazi(ish) soldiers/uniform that just makes them look so menacing. I dont fear many things but redback spiders for example have that effect on me :P

Well done and disregard the political crap here. Some artists are confined to a cubicle all day and feel the need to act like the next Lenin.

Also thanks for sharing details on techniques!

P.S Rebecca just realised who you are! your Sanyeng model/render really inspired me a few years ago. I'd say you greatly influenced my interest in CG :D
