I'm just starting to learn maya, and wanted to know if there's a way to project the curves of an object I want to texture into a texture-file. I've searched for tutorials on this but couldn't find anything
The way I do it now is to use the 3d paint tool ta mark certain areas as a reference, but just an unwrapped wirefram would be so much more easy!!!!

i think if you go to windows>UV Texture Editor there should be a unwrap of the nurbs surface already. hopefully

Nope, not for NURBS... I find working with a square texture quite unnatural aswell, I would just like to be able to work with different areas that are properly mapped, I hope this is possible

anyone? I can't imagine that Maya doesn't have a proper texturing feature for NURBS, since the program is known for being good for NURBS modeling (at least that's what I thought)... I found it very strange that you can't use layered textures for NURBS either...

you can tesallate the nurbs with advance tesellation without chord heigh and chord heigth ratio and mode per # span to 1 in u and v, select the poly, go to the uv texture and in poly select uv snapshot. this way you get the uv`s from the poly that are the same that the nurbs.
