Hello all! I've just finished my first rigging reel and would love to show it to companies I want to apply to for an internship. I realize now that it's a bit too lengthy (weighs in at 4 mins), and would love suggestions on what to change to help shorten the video.

I'm about to graduate in a few weeks and have taken a liking to character rigging for the past year now. I appreciate any comments/critique you may have! :)

Enjoy.

hey looks good, i think you can start with showing the whole UI you made for controlling your fish rig. Than show wolf rig, only thing it would be good to show more deformation of wolf (extreme poses.) Good luck.

Theres some good stuff on there Mike! I liked the presentation. I agree with the previous poster that the UI for the fish should be moved up quite a bit. I thought it stood out. Maybe bump it up to just before the visibility levels segment.

I'd speed up the pacing a bit. It feels like its dragging on at times. Maybe shorten the length of the rendered segments from the short and provide a link to the full animation at the end of the reel instead. Also make the cross fades a lot faster. It will help things.

I'd get rid of "Aspiring" from the opening slate. Nothing wrong with letting companies know you are looking for an entry level position, but I would leave that for the cover letter/interview process. And maybe word it a little different too. Saying right away that you're "Aspiring" just says you have no experience and to not expect much. Be a little more confident and let them judge your reel for themselves.

You have some nice stuff in there, I really like the swim generator. I agree that you should remove the "Aspiring" from the opening slate on your reel. Keep up the good work :D

Yes, compagnies are not looking for aspiring Character TDs, they are looking for Character TDs ;)

I really like your animated black shapes with the text in them.

And a thing that could help make your reel shorter is not to show the same feature more than once ( ex, ''4 visibility levels'', you show this feature on every rig, it's like ''Allrgith allright ! we already know that you can do this !'' )

Thanks very much for the feedback, all! I've gone and re-edited the reel based on your comments - especially the "aspiring" part and I feel more comfortable with it. :) However, the video on youtube is the original one - I have yet to re-upload it.

Thanks again!

Great reel! The swim generator seems really nice and easy to use.
Aside from what everyone said, for the dog rig, I'd watch out for the jaw's pivot and deformation.

I also missed some biped humanoid action :)
I think that's a thing every Character Rigger reel should have and the employers would wanna see. Specially good and expressive facial deformations!

Good work!! Your rigs seem to be very clean and easy to use.

Very good overall! I like the swimming controls most. But I think the pits of the eyeballs shouldn't deform when the body moves, I understand the rig is very cartoony and flexible, but I think they should stay much more rigid.
