Hey I am awful at lighting I use Maya 7.0 and here is the entry I put in for the Hardcore Modeling Challenge. I am really not happy with the lighting and not a huge fan of the textures either, though that was partly due to lack of time.

Oh and I have to fix the bushes as well.

Any help with this I would really appreciate it.

Hi, just want to give some insight. I'm no means a guru or anything. But I guess, it's really important that you starting up with a theme first. What kind of mood that you want to present in your image. Wether it's evening, noon, or morning. And also you need to emphasize on how your lighting will shape up your environment to support your characters.

So my suggestion is just start with a rough skecth on where should your main lights gonna go and start building up the other lights one by one with different colors and hues.

For surfacing (texturing and shading). I guess you're almost there but need to refine more on the texture level, make the looks of the skin coarser instead matte. Put bumps, specular maps to enhance them.

So I guess that's all...hope it works for you...

cheers...happy lighting..
