View Full Version : Jagged hair in negative X
rhythmone 04-18-2009, 12:59 AM See picture... has anyone else had this issue?
I have a symmetrical hair system, but the hair on the -tx side is jagged.
This basically has 3 dynamic follicles on each side, and the passive ones are inheriting a trim (deletion of CVs on the dynamic curves). Its only after the trim that the jagged hair starts

What version of Maya are you using? 2008? Ext2? 2009? SP1?

8.0 OSX - have there been any significant changes in the latest versions?

From my experience OSX versions of maya are pretty much "lame-sauce" They have been increadibly buggy and crash entirely too often. However, There have been significant developments of the dynamics in maya in 2008 and 2009.
I have to ask, have you tried rebuilding the effect in a new scene?

You need to be very careful as to what you are duplicating and deleting. You should not delete cvs on the output curves, but rather the input one. As well the output curves should not be transformed, but rather the input ones. Operations like delete and transform on the output curves will occur downstream of the simulation and result in incorrect simulations.

All of this is being done via script, which deletes the CVs on the "StartCurves"... so yes, I have 'rebuilt' the system several times trying all sorts of different settings... there are no duplications or mirrored instances, etc... BUT, there are transformations applied to the follicle node.
I am not setting any endCurves, maybe that is causing some of it.... HOWEVER, I think that it is very odd that only 1 side (negative X) is affected.
