Gollum was the best actor in LOTR ;)
This looks great, I never got into the 1st two films but the Dark Prince was great, I might even see my 1st Harry Potter film at the cinema :)

my thoughts as well, simply amazing VFX. Is this the last one on the series ?? not too familiar with Harry Potter.

No, there will another two films after this, because they've split the final book into two films.

We'll see how well it keeps to the book. The only ones that have are the first and second movie. The rest have deviated from the original story a bunch. I'll watch it when it comes out on DVD but I'm not a big fan of the potter series after the first 2. They should have grabbed one director who could have shaped the entire story arc. Jumping around between directors loses a lot of continuity and there are so many things they deviated away from the book on that the only way to make work is to BS it.
Just a few deviations
The Room of Requirement is a very important part of the final books (with how they get Voldemort's followers into Hogwarts to the horocrux located in it.) But they just smashed it open with a big hammer because they couldn't just do it the way it was in the book.
Voldemort could fly in the final book and that was a huge deal. But not anymore. EVERYONE can fly. They just turn into magical smoke and zoom around. Makes me wonder why anyone would ever use a broom.
The Ghosts in the castle were an important part of the last book, but I haven't seen Nearly Headless Nick for several films now...Or any of the other named ghosts for that matter.
Dobby is also important....but they dropped him off right after they introduced him.

Another one
Dumbledore had no fear of Voldemort in the book and during their duel they actually spoke to each other. It was an important part of the book because it showed how sure of himself Dumbledore was and what kind of relationship he and voldemort had. They cut that out.
I can't wait to see how they tie all the plot holes they created together.
but yeah. Visually they are pretty cool. Although the weasley escape in the last film was pretty fake looking. I can't believe they couldn't make that more believable.

The VFX look amazing. But, is it just me, or do things appear a bit blurry?
It may very well be the intention in some scenes to get that fantasy dreamy effect. But every scene looks blurry to me. I'm hoping they didn't apply it to the whole film, because it seems a little annoying.
Reminds me of what they keep doing to video games...
As to how far they deviate from the book: Personally, I don't care, as long as they deliver quality entertainment.
Books are book, and movies are movies. Its unrealistic to hold one to the standards and limitations of the other. I've made that argument many times though... Also keep in mind, the first two books are by far the shortest in the series. All you have to do is look at the thickness of the newer books to grasp why their movie adaptations have to be increasingly more liberal with the edit pen and creative license.

I don't care how close they are to the books either. I haven't read the books and found the first movie to be horrifically boring and juvenile. The Cuaron directed one I quite liked, and the last one wasn't bad either. Just looked up the director on imdb, and he had a pretty sparse resume before Potter...wonder how he managed to land such a massive gig.

I watched the first two movies and didnt care for them so gave up on the rest. Seen very few stills from any of the subsequent movies.
I figured Rowling had a tight rein on how faithful they were.
Guess not according to what others are saying.
You want unfaithful, read the source novel for Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
I think the only thing they kept were names and basic idea of a mystery involving cartoon characters...in that case they were very smart to change things.

Beautiful work as always. For me Potter has always the best vfx franchise in cinema. They continuously amaze me with the great art direction and the way they visualize the ideas in the book. Huge congratulations to all those who worked on it.
Last two are going to be epic. I believe work has already started at some shops.
can they show more shots? even if they wanted to? I mean, in this trailer they probably showed bits of every single scene of this movie. That's pff****in ridiculous.
Looks great tho.

Well the most likely people who will see the film are those that have already read the books and know what's going to happen anyway, so the trailer is designed to tease them with all the memorable moments from the books.
As far as the "everyone can fly comment" I don't understand where it shows people flying, all I saw was the memory sequences where they appeared out of the swirling cloud.
Also I found the first two movies to be the most boring, plodding movies ever for a childrens film and it wasn't until the third film that the series finally picked up some steam. Just because it didn't follow the book as much as the first two doesn't make it a worse film, infact it was the first one in the series that was actually treated as a film and worked really well.
Love both the books and the films so I'm also looking forward to this as well.

I thought all of the movies followed the source material. Sure they left a lot out of the movies for time and focusing of the story, but all of the main plot elements were there.
I LOVE the casting of Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange!

That gave me chills. It's certainly not my movie of the year as that honor goes to Trek, but it slides in nicely at #3 behind Up. Oh, and Bruno is 4. :)
