View Full Version : Creature: Long legs
Levitateme 07-12-2003, 09:41 PM I am showing my sketch of this creature before i model it. when he is modeled, i figure the legs will be 2.5X longer, i just sketched out what would fit on paper. im going to start modeling in maya now. ill update in like a hour.
the extrusion coming out of his head. that is going to be "a shield" armor that is modeld into him. i cant wait to animate this guy.

interesting....
i think its safe to say that we all hate your maya color scheme, but your model is lookin' pretty good! (its inspiring me to do something similar!)
Cheers,

question: how did you randomize those teeth? :surprised

The materials are far from finished, and the modeling isn't complete (only the head has been primarily modeled, the rest of the body hasnt even been started) but my aqua monster is dedicated to you Levitateme! :D
Comments?
Cheers,

[edit]: sorry if I'm thread crapping, if you want I can remove my image so I wont be intruding on your thread

ok here is a update, i think the general shape is all done, but this is just a game model. i learned long ago what i need to add for detail and what i can leave to the normal bump maps. now my favorite part, i am going to smooth this and start artisan adjusting it, then i will bake that smoothed version as my texture. so ill update again with a smoothed version of the character.

ok here is my model im using to get my normal maps off of. i think it came out really close to my drawing, more detail though. i paticularly like were his sheild thing coming out of his front part melds into his body , i like it so far. next i guess it to skin or texture first. i have no idea how to paint him though. if anyone has any suggestions i would like to hear.
if anyone actually replies to this thread, they might ask about why his back toes all 3 are altered. i copied the uvs from 1 toe to all the rest, saves time then i just move the uv shells, for the front foot ill paint on one toe, that texture will go to the other 2. on the back foot, ill paint on the middle toe it will do the same, i have 1 uv shell for 3 toes. so i did the back 3 and tweaked, then relaized i didnt need to do that to the other 2 toes ...does that make sense?

Very gross, but really interesting. I cant think of any other paint scheme for something like this other than a splotchy yellow and brown, maybe with bits of red moss growing on his front and over the top of the back.
Nice work, I am throughly disgusted.

:applause: Beautiful original design! This is a great monster why is possible to meet in a videogame in the end of game level. I wait to see the model whit the texture and I hope you make it for an animation. Excuse my terrible English.

Good work!!
I think u would like to have some c&c, well here it is ...
It has no eyes.
The front and rear legs look mixed up. Because all the weight of the body is in the front the front legs should be bigger and stronger than the rear legs.
the front legs are odly attached to the body. Where the rear legs are quite natural and organicly attached, the front legs look kinda mechanical, as if they were removed and some new ones inserted.
the knees of the front leg has 2 joints ... first the 3 "rings" and then directly where the upper leg enters the lower leg.
finally the feet, they look kinda bobly to me ... not as if they are real feet. You can't see any joints or bend points between the fingers and the feet, and between the feet and the legs. Maybe u can change it into a similar joint as u have modelled the knees.
Well, thats it, don't take it too bad, I'm simply trying to help, so keep up the good work!!
oh and for the texture, maybe add some metal to make it a cyborg like mistake of a laboratory.

thanks sand man, i appreciate the c&c.
the thing about the weight on the legs, i originally wanted the legs to be like 2.5 times longer, i was going to stretch out eventually. last night my friend who loves half life "as i do" showed me this link to a 600mb video file of it being demonstrated at e3, at the end of that game there is some,,,i think there called scanners? but they are bascially the same thing as my design "the legs i mean" there likse 80 feet long, which is what i wanted to do. so now i cant because to many people woudl say i just copied there design and took my own liberties. thats fine but i didnt know about this until last night.
the front legs attached to the body. i kinda see what you mean, after i get the texture done, im going to fix that.
as for the feet, no one likes the feet... but i wanted them to have a real flat look like fingers. i originally had basically a hand sketched out, i was gonig to have hands for his feet. but i opted to just have the 3 fingers. once i get joints placed, skinned/weighted im sure it will work its self out. thanks ffor the c&c
