View Full Version : modelling:boolean operands re-use

i made a boolean substracion A-B.thing is, now i need to duplicate ONLY ONE of the operands. any way to do that? i can see it when i choose so , but how can i duplicate it exactly ??

Your question isn't totally clear to me, but,Shift and drag the selected object to make a copy. Then use the copy as another operand. Just a word of advice if you are planning on smoothing your mesh with meshsmooth, I would strongly advise that you avoid using boolean.:shame: As an alternative you would model the object, and model around any holes or intrusions.:thumbsup:

I've tried that before posting the question, but it copys the boolean result an dnot the operands, even if i choose operands in the select tree...

Hmm, well I was suggesting making the operands before you start using the boolean. In other words, make all of the objects first, then start doing your booleans.
Maybe post up a picture, I still strongly advise avoiding booleans, if you are going to smooth the mesh you are headed for disaster. Whatever you are trying to do can be achieved by traditional modeling methods I am sure. :beer:

I will typically keep 'my own' copy of the operands hidden for future use rather than relying on the 'extract operands' option.

you can extract the operands, select them in the modifier stack, look for something like extract in the menu...its there...you can extract as an instance and then make it unique
