View Full Version : Poster Design ideas (170kb dload)
Ian Jones 07-12-2003, 03:27 PM Hi,
I am developing a poster design, print output A1... and I'm looking for some opinions. The poster design is for a university faculty called 'information environments', which is also closely associated with multimedia design (which I'm studying). It is meant to be a fairly techy poster and is meant to grab attention at an exhibition.
Which of these ideas do you think works best?

These are shown at the actual size they were produced at. Now I need to pick an idea and make a high resolution version. I hope you like them, c&c is welcome.

1st - The first really caught my attention, cause it's messy and 'unfocused'. I think it is too messy. =/
2nd - The second is pretty good, looks like a neat 'cloud' of some kind. I like that one.
3rd - The third would be good for a birthday card/or something like that. I don't like that. =/ The flame is nicely done, but it wouldn't stick out.
4th - Looks like 3rd, but kind of cooler. I like this one. The 'flame' particles need a little work though.
5th - Too much stuff. a little less around the IE and it'd be good.
6th. Perfect - add a little bit more 'stuff' around it.
7th - read 3rd.
/\ my opinions.

Hey thx for the feedback Premutos. It all made sense. I like the cleanliness and simplicity of no# 5 aswell.. but I agree that it needs something more. I also really like my flame/energy effect ones aswell so I'm still having trouble deciding. :surprised
I think I need the 0's to make it computer related... so maybe I need to try to incorporate something new into the flame/energy designs to pull them back on track. Any other thoughts? suggestions or ideas?

Put some 0's and 1's next to the flame (Yaknow, instead of those other particles next to the flame), as if they were shot into the IE from the fire bolt? (well, or something like that.)

well i agree with what has been said....just another idea to drop in ....why not forming that IE with the flames? and definately make that IE somewhat bigger... for now it got somewhat lost imho

hey Ian,
well i thought the 5th one was rather more interesting.
it's very unbalanced in a good way. 6th and 7th sort of balanced but has good focal point. rather too strong to my liking. 2nd one is good too, simple.
the flames look good but somehow doesn't feel right. too crispy perhaps??
anyway, these are very nice posters!

Hey, thx for the replies... Seems everyone likes different ideas, but I got a few things to work on. I'll be showing them to the rest of the team this week so I'll post some progress soon.

Hey there... As promised here is the final version the team chose and I made into a high res. Of course as I expected it doesn't really resemble the concept in every original detail.

The final output will be printed at A1 and even A0! its very big... The largest design I have ever worked on (Yes that is a radial blur! it took a looong time to render). You can't see it in the pic above but the starfield goes on forever... the details are pretty extensive. In a more professional sense I would have liked to actually produce a poster which had a stronger concept of IE and mutimedia, but I think this one got chosen for the eye candy appeal. All in all a fun project, because I had freedom to do what I wanted.
Comments and crits are welcome.

it looks good!
you seemed to have gone with the conservative one. i think it might look good in blue too.
