View Full Version : Subsurface scattering experiment
MAGenta 05-07-2002, 01:15 PM ...this is just my first try with subsurface scattering...
it supose to be something like heart...
the render took more than 32h. !!!!!
3000x3800pixels on 2xPIII800Mhz/1Gb RAM (with supersampling)
I used Finalrender/3D Max and of course PS for the background
I tried to render an architectural model with S.S.(about 300 000 faces) but it was to sloooooooow
..Do U know..how to optimize it...or which Appz i could use to render hi-poly models with S.S.?
10x!

I don't want to start a whole "which software is better argument".
However, you could try OGO_Hikari, in Lightwave, it looks very cool.

however if you wanted to stick to the 3dsmax platform, you could try brazil (which also looks cool).
dont know the website, i'd search on cgchannel for it.

dark_lotus: www.splutterfish.com - if you wanna read about Brazil (or dl it!).
MAGenta: Nice!! Looks a bit shiny though... I'd love to see the same model with the same lighting, but with some kind of "waxy" material. Great work! (32 h!!!) :surprised:

Is that Kai's Power Tools -> Flare in the background, by any chance? :)
Looks great, anyway. How did you model it? I always hit problems when trying to model complex intertwining shapes - they never look geometrically perfect as I end up doing most of it by hand.

1000X! all
Catfish: yes it is KPT5 FraxFlame..it's my favourite...
but I did't use any lens exf..just paint with dodge tool "under" the model
....and the model it's just a simple torus knot...here are the details>>

That's the one. Which one's KPT Flare then?I'm sure they have a non-lensflare effect called Flare...
nevermind.

Is the Torus Knot a prebuilt primitive in Max? That would explain it then...
