View Full Version : Flour sack rig (free rig)
DanielWray 04-13-2009, 11:54 PM Just thought i'd post the "possible" final version of the rig, version 0.7
A rig i started the other day, i have thread over at BA with the previous versions.
There are places where perhaps i coud tweak them to perfection, but i'm planning on rigging a large elephant with some dynamics, something a little more challenging.
So here is the file, not sure if anyone has downloaded it, but if you do i'd love some C+C on it, thanks :)

A few pics and a bit of a story behind this "sack" might be interesting.
I mean... A sack? What does it do?
Cheers!

Yea sure, it's a simple to use rig that i developed. My first rig actaully, i figured releasing it too the comminuty would benefit myself, since i'll get more feedback on issues that perhaps i've over looked and also the comminuty will have a fairly nice (hopefully :P ), simple to use rig for testing out animation and for seeing how rig's are put together.
There are controls for the hands, feet, waist, hips and head as well as a ground bone (which stops the model from going through the floor).
It's not a complex mesh or rig, but i think it'd still benefit people as the rigs that are out there can be quite daunting for people who are new to animation and rigging.

I've hid the bones that aren't user controlled on bone layers 2 and 3, on bone layer 1 you have the bones which are represented by hand, feet, monkey head and circle (for main controller) these control the mesh, along with these bones you have little icons which represent how each controller can be affected i.e. movement (X, Y, Z) and rotation.
Also i have two controllers, which are fairly basic, but i thought i'd include them. They are for controlling age and body build, they are crude examples i must admit, but they show how you can affect a mesh/ rig by using pose (actions?) and linking them to a slider control.

That looks pretty advanced for a first rig.
It's even more advanced than my THIRD rig! hehehe.
Why do I get the feeling you've done this before?
:)
Oh and have you thought of using Mesh Cages with the rigs?

Looks like the file to download is unavailable, every time I try it tells me to either pay for premium download or try later.

CGIPadawan: thank you :) i'll be honest, it look's more complicated than it actaully is :P
Really it's just bones with a few constraints and visual bones controlling the rig. I hope to make much more advanced rigs in the future, with muscle and fat simulation.
This is my first rig attempt, although i've messed about with bones before... it has taken some trial and error :P
willog: i'll upload it asap! i think the upload service deletes the file after so many hours if it doesnt get downloaded enough times.
EDIT: here is the link, you shouldnt have any troubles with this link.. but if you do just let me know and i'll try and sort out another hosting service :)
