my next question.....is there any way of doing the wrap deformer technique found in maya, in cinema 4d. i hope people just understand what i am talking about because i couldn't explain it very well if i had to......man i hope this works.

ok, it doesn't use standard objects, but instead splines (and if you wanted you could drive the splines or their points with your objects).

you can use spline deformers in cinema, they're a bit tricky to get the hang off, basically you have either two splines (one to give the original points in space, the other to give the deformed points i.e. where you want those points ot be) or four splines (this one is kinda difficult to use, it uses four splines, basically afaics two original shape splines, and two deformation splines and it interpolated between them to create some really powerful deformations.

however, when ditools 1.0 is released this situation will be remedied some with the addition of Nurbs Deformer (that distorts a mesh using a nurbs plane) and ditools spline deformer which is much closer to spline deformers as you know them in maya (i.e. only one spline is needed and the object get's deformed along that spline much like MSA only with a single object).

that's exactly what i was looking for. thanks for the reply. btw, do you know where i can look up more information on ditools. i would like to know the price range and release info. also i was surfing the forum and came across something about character animation with Mme Sadie's character animation tools, is this you. if so where can i find more info about that also. thanks again for the help and reply to this.

ditools you can get for free in it's 0.89 incarnation from www.remotion.de.vu 1.0 isn't out yet.

the "ca" stuff (which isn't really a ca tool, just a constrainer plugin, that you can if you want use for ca) i think you mean is Constrainer Tag, which isn't out yet. It will be released through my website (which is linked to through my signature). I'll post on the forums when it's ready for sale :) however you can get some other free plugins still from my site that you might need, just go into the renderzone section and have a search through that main front page, and the library section.

Hi,

Wrap deformers in Maya aren't just splines.
For instance, you can create a lo-res version of your model to use in softbody dynamics and use that lo-res object as a deformer for the hi-res one.
It's very cool, because you can actually model your own deformer!

correct, but as a workaround in cinema you can simply use the spline deformer and make a spline that uses all the points of your object to create a cage/mesh (select all edges and create a spline based on the edges). that will also provide a very similar result.

are there any tutoruals on this subject.

i don't know of any. there's anotehr technique that i forgot about, but you might want to experiment with, and that's using bones (provided you don't mind just having very basic single object controls) there's a tute on that on my site, under the tips section, look at the faking soft selections tutorial.

sweet. that works fine. quick too. i just tried it in an example file where i took a sphere and parented a few bones with ik applied. then i made a seperate bone and fixed vertex weights to it with claude bonet. then i parented the bone to the original anchor bone but not as part of the ik hierarchy. and it is working similar to the wrap deformer in maya. i will try using it in a character setup so i can tweak weights and maybe try to ad some tendons and muscle deformations.

kick ass. cinema rocks and is much more intuitive and user freindly. thanks again mdme sadie.:buttrock:
