Title: Tomb Raider
Name: Mike Thompson
Country: USA
Software: Painter

This is a piece I started about two years ago. I posted the w.i.p. a while ago and kind of lost interest. I actually began this piece in Photoshop CS before I knew my way around Painter. I am so into Painter now that i spent the weekend pretty much repainting the entire piece using Painter X.

I am using a modified scratchboard tool and blender. I also used the FX glow for the color bloom in the background. Again I am pretty new to fantasy work, but I really enjoy it.

Hope you like it and please feel free to post all critiques and comments.

Cheers!

very nice indeed! What i noticed however is that the nose seems to be out of perspective with the rest of the head. Also the head in general, i believe you would see a little bit more of the left side of the head (her right), seems to be cut off a little but perhaps the intense light is "blinding" out some of the detail. Perhaps tone it down a little so the head retains its natural shape. Other than that, fantastic work! keep it up.

Cool piece! Really emotion in the pose and lighting.

In terms of criticism, the lighting at the crotch seems a bit odd. I can understand light shine through the legs there, but I would possibly tone it done a little with the glow. Its a pretty sensual piece and maybe you want a bit of that "treasure" feel there, but its just something to consider. I would also consider adding some wear and tear to the pants, which could add more of that sensuality depending on where you add the tears. Some flying debris wouldn't hurt either.

Nice job. It looks like a lot of fun and that you are having fun with it, which is always important. Look forward to seeing more of your future posts.

Thanks! I did use reference, I always do. lol. I have a ton of jpgs of explosions I looked at when painting this and I used one of my wife's million Victoria's Secret catalogs for Lara. I am happy I tried to not be a slave to my reference this time. ;)

Mike, awesome paintwork again man, you style is always refreshing to look at bro. Nice mood on the piece and on lara, the highlights work real well ;) *high five
Always cool to see a more realistic take on lara, away from her toony CG renders we see so much of.

look at the size of those melons!!! I would have thought that would be enough for another front page. Nice work as always. I never could figure out painter. I'd ask you a bunch of questions about how you paint and blend color with the program but I know you're busy.

looking forward to the next piece.

Another great work, I love the rim lighting around the character and how it blends between the explosion and tomb raider, the blending here is seamless and the colors very vibrant yet not overpowering you keep the subtleties nice and tight also :)
