View Full Version : MentalRay: AO Render to Texture freezing up

So I've done an RTT with AO a million times and this has never happened to me before until now.

I'm projecting a highpoly onto a lowpoly. I turn on mentalRay, set up AO on the Render to Texture, and select a really small resolution like 128 with 16 samples. When I hit render, the progress bar fills up under 'initializing' and then just hangs. It doesn't "lock up" or crash, I can still move a couple windows around, but no matter how long I wait, it will not begin actually rendering. I left it for like an hour and got nothing, and I always have to CTRL-Alt-Del to exit out.

Now I just tested this with a box in a new scene and it works fine. So it's something about my scene in particular. I went back and exported the lowpoly out as an OBJ and imported it back into a new scene and tried the projection with another lowpoly mesh and it still froze up the same way...

Also, I can do a regular mentalray ambient occlusion render without a problem, its only on the Render to Texture function that this happens.

Any ideas?

strange.. i'm doing some more random tests. i moved the projecting mesh into a weird spot and did the RTT, it gave me a warning about 'illegal points', but it rendered... I then moved the projecting mesh further away from the cage and tried again and it locked up like before. So it maybe it has something to do with the position, but that doesn't really help me because my original setup has the highpoly totally within the cage bounds...
