William b. Hand 07-12-2003, 07:21 AM This is "Electron Phantasm o1"... It's one of those stop'n'start pieces that's currently stop. Looking for general reaction/feedback and hoping to get it started again. No particular point that's causing me pain, but I don't feel it's time to abandon it yet.

Thanks, guys!
Stalecracker, I just used a "normal" setting on my brush for all the yellow-green stuff, and "overlay" for the reddish areas. I do see what you mean about it being remeniscent of "dodge/burn"! Heh heh. Cool.
Steve, thanks for the suggestion! I may do some sort of background, although I guess I'm focusing more on the back-end of this thing... I'm somewhat perplexed about how to handle the abdomen.
I'm wondering if I should leave it chopped off at the edge, or coil it below, or have it extend off to the right and get fancy somehow...

I'm really "iffy" about what I've done here... Take a look, what do you think?
Keep in mind that this is still sketchy, so the quality would improve.
I've got half-a-mind says I've lost my marbles and should back this thing WAY up, slap an ass on it, and call it quits.
Any opinions?

Actually, this is an electron phantasm. So this abdomen is an exellent idea.If you would have gone the other way it might have resembled a mosquito larvae too much.
Adding electricity in some way wouldnt be out of bounds either,
in my humble opinion.

wow william, wow. that made my jaw drop, that is a increible picture, this has nothing to do with you picture, but i remember in like the early 90's my friends little brother had alot of shirts " so did everyobody" that had stuff on them kinda like this with tag lines taht said " not on my turf" " second place is always a loser until he finishes and becomes first place" just RAD type stuff. the shirts always had like a pitbull with humongous muscles or soemthign, or a grasshopper with a raygun? just reminded me of how many of those shirts i owned....amazing pic, your update with the tail is even more amazing.

Phew! Glad you guys like this direction... Like I said, I wasn't sure if I was maybe following some distorted path or not. Sorry no update, but I wanted to respond to everybody's kind words before they went stale  !
Steve - I'd been thinking along the same lines about the mosquito thing, ha ha! As far as electricity goes... well, the "electron" in the title was originally referring to an electron micrograph, which is what I was sortuv shooting for.
It's looking less like that now, though, so I guess the name isn't as appropriate. I like the idea you're hinting at, and I may make some lightning-like tendrils that could perform the same visual function.
Prs-Phil - Thanks! My colour-usage is still rather timid, so your positive reception is heartening;) !
cANt - Hey! :wavey: Holy moly, what a nice thing to say! Shucks, you remember my good ol BULLDOG (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55876) from long ago . I'll be sure to send you, my fan, a pm when I finally get my website up! I'm glad you like this style and subject... the sortuv super-detailed alien bug... because I'll be doing more!
Levitateme - LOL That's pretty cool that I made you remember those shirts! I'm glad to hear you like this new tail... It helps to get this feedback.
You folks sure are encouraging.

Dear William:
Looking great! It's awesome to see the evolution of your pieces. I liked the very firse one if simply for the fact that it was a closer view and you would see all the intricate vein details you put in, but I understand for web purposes you need to shrink it down with the added extentions. However, a fullsized pic would make an awesome desktop. =o) The new additions are looking awesome. The pallaps on his back remind me of a Venus Fly Trap. His anatomy is almost like a lobster, with fins on his abdomin, legs on this thorax, and two large 'arms' up front. It's far from a lobster, of course, but I couldn't help but make that observation. Was there any intention to that?
To sum it up, I'd just like to see what more details you put in when you refine the last remaining sections on this baby. Good luck! =oD
