Done in XSI. I am building a lab, here is some of my props. NO raytracing, HDRI or global illumination used. Rendered in Mental Ray.

Hey Dan, that's looking really nice. Nothing to crit about the phone at all, it's perfect (to my untrained eye). The bunson burner is almost there, though I think the reflective part is maybe just a touch too reflective, especially where it meets the base. The rubber tubing is excellent. The microscope is very good, but maybe just a touch too low poly - those edges could do with some very slight smoothing out.

Really like how it's coming on though, look forward to seeing the entire lab!

Oh yeah, one last thing, I think the test tubes are too thick, the ones I remember from school were as thin as they could be so that they didn't distort the look of what was inside - maybe knock down the diffraction?

Cheers dude

I like the equiptment you showing one by one...can't wait to see it all in one scene...I see you can render all this very well.

How about making a fireplace where people making medicine...just a suggestions...

Overall ,Good Job!...

The test tubes look off, i think the shape is off, they are too tall to be test tubes. make them thicker to be boiling tubes, or shorten them to be test tubes (i study (ed) chemsitry). also the rims of them dont look right, they shouldnt bend round as much. also make a few of them broken, they allways are!

microscope is good, if a little low poly around the eyepeice.

A sink. The tiles and wall are just a temp thing till i get the sink into the room. I will grime them up properly later. Something still looks cg about it.

Cheers for the comments about the test-tube...will fix.

This stuff is looking great!

My only comment would be the joinery between the bunsen burner and the gas hose, they seem to be just loosly attatched, I'm not sure if you've used a bunsen burner before, if you haven't I'll explain further, but in reality, the gas hose would have more of a pronounced bulge where the burner attaches.

Hi Dan, you're going to hate me for saying this but the glass looks a little too thin now, though the diffraction is better - and the colour should be clearer, though thi won't show once it's all put together. Coming on nicely mate, and the dirt on the sink is great!

Any better? Carnt spend too much time of these as i have loads more to do. The funny thing is they look very different from different angles, these 2 shots are from the same scene.

wow, still wip and already some really nice textures and motives. especially the dof in the image with the burner (tell me how its called in english) is pretty cool.

what you need now is a nice and detailed environment for it.

keep on going!

Update on the sink. Tiles still need griming up.
Looks kinda surreal, almost like a painting rather than CG, if you get what i mean. This is the sort of lighting i had im mind for the shots.

is it those soft shadows that do that... make it look surreal?

interesting work!

Yea, i think so. i actualy quite like the colour now...spose you would get kinda of a saturated look with artificial neon lights that they have in some of the hospitals, with no natural light getting in.

Update. This is another shot closer to the end of the anim. This shelf is about 80% complete. Ignore what looks like chrome jars, they r untextured!

This stuff is great.

Hats off to you, Dan. Reminds me of my old school days, the periodic table is a nice touch.

beautiful texture work
i just have one crit
the texture on the sink has a handprint in a very awkwardly handprintable place.
know what i mean? someone would have to bend their wrist quite alot to make that print, maybe put it on the wall above the sink.
good work though keep going.
