View Full Version : Curtain attached to Metal Rings

Hey there,
I'm trying to model a bathroom and therefore I want to have a curtain. Currently it has just some fixed vertices at the position where a metal pole is, but I want to have a few metal rings on that pole which hold the curtain and use some physics on them. The Curtain itself animates fine with the clothing-system.

Now the thing is how do I attach this cloth to the metal rings? When I join both objects the rings would fall like cloth, if I just fix the curtains vertices at the position of the rings I can't use physics on the rings, because the curtain would stay in position.
Here a little picture to show what it looks like atm.

The Plane down there is the Curtain and I will add more rings when I get it to work. Would be great if I could attach like every 5th vertex from the top of that plane to a ring.
I simply want to have the curtain be fixed to the ring(s) so when i move the rings the curtain moves to and so on.
I hope you get what I mean.

Now what would be the best approach to realize this? Can anyone help me?

Basically, you can, though I'd rather parent each of the rings to an empty,
and the same with the specific vertices, parent them to the appropriate empties.

You can do this by using hooks, in edit mode of the curtain select the vertex,
and hit ctrl+H this will prompt you to either add a new hook or to add to an existing object. :)

later parent each of the ring objects to their respective hook-empties.

animate the hooks and then enambe cloth/bake it.

Cool stuff,sounds good.
I'll have a look at it and see if it does what I want.

Thanks a lot.

Hi fr3yr.

About the procedure Felix suggested you with the hooks, awhile ago I did the exact same procedure in my "proyecto tuqueque" short...

There's a video showing the procedure. 'Hope you find it useful :)
