DWIV - 2D - Roboto-kun - Mantis Samurai

Alright, so in preparation for this year's D-War I've started with some thumbnail sketches to get my brain going.

One of the design that stood out for me was 2-E from the second batch of thumbs and so I've decided to move forward with it.

So for my entry this year I've decided to go robot (last year was a demon warlord)



My concept is a light-weight, extremely agile, Scout class robot that combines machinery, samurai/ninja attire, and the aesthetics of insects, in particular the praying mantis which is something that stood out to me from the thumbnail sketches.


Here's a quick silhouette sketches to establish general feel of the proportion and weaponry:

I liked the elements from 2 and 4 and proceeded to do a rough color concept from it. The CG society logo will be incorporated into the holographic banner on the back. I'm somewhat torn between giving it a real sword or energy based sword.

So far I'm trying to combine elements from 2 and 3. I would like to get some opinions from you guys.

That is some really nice work. Your character development is just sweet!

Really loving the mantis look as well, it is a very interesting design.

I like all of them in their own way. The complexity and time constrain will be a factor in deciding which one to go with (got this thing I call job now...) but I would like to hear your feedback as well
