View Full Version : Distributing/Installing modules for different Maya version

Okay, let`s say you have a module for Maya with scripts, a plug-ins, icons etc. and you have different Maya versions on one machine. What is the most elegant/efficient/awesome method to let Maya know: okay here is this module with sub-folders, PLUS use the same name for the plug-in (c++ API) compiled for different versions?

Here are the ways I came up with so far, please let me know if you think that I`m mistaken
1. MAYA_MODULE_PATH
Is used by different Maya versions, so your plug-in may appear in a maya version it is not intended for
2. User Document`s maya dir
Not suitable for multi-user environment
3. Module Directory in Maya installation folder
Seems so far the best way to make sure the Module is only seen by that specific maya version and works for multiple users on that machine

Or how do you distribute your plug-ins for different version?

An installer. You just need to query the registry settings to see which maya versions are installed, and their locations, and install the relevant components, and modify the relevant maya.env files.

hi rob, thanks for your reply and sorry for the late reply on my behalf, I was on holidays. This registry thing works on all Maya supported plattforms, right?
