If I'm posting exactly this text inside the image tags, it should show up, right? Hmm...

Hya dude. Nice piccy! I think the face is fine. Its pretty hard to make any suggestions though without knowing what stlye your going for. Be it super photo-realsim or cartoony. I take it you r going down the sylised route?

Here is what im working on at mo. Please feel free to crit away.

Ok, pretty much finished modelling, trial texture on show, used the incidence node in XSI for the blue tones. Negative lights in the eye sockets, and glow applied to the eyes themselves. Constructive critisism welcomed (needed, more like).

If anyone is even vaguely interested, I've uploaded the animatic to my short story here:
http://mattmos.com/images/animwithsoundsmall.avi
1 min 40 secs, 11.7 Mb divx format

Any comments you have on that would really help me out as I am about to start animating the 3d section. Cheers!

Maybe make his fat layers a bit more pronounced and make his teeth more yellow/brown/thilthy ;now they seem to be sticked on...
You should be more evil and make him more grotesk ;)

Thanks, I'll see if I can't get that fat rolling! He is in a neutral pose at the mo, which is why the expression is quite blank. See what you mean about the teeth as well...

Looking really good mate. U gonna texture those horns up? Really interested in what the enviroment looks like now. From what i saw of things a few weeks back with the 2D world, i carnt wait to see what the main character looks like now in a '3d' state.

Hows things going at uni? Going a little stir crazy here being on my own. Spose ill be in next week anyway for the presentations. Did you know im working with Chirs? He hasn't posted any of his stuff up on here yet, but its looking really good. He is doing a bird for the lab scene.

Downloaded your animatic again. Cracks me up every time! LOL.

Keep up the good work!!
Speak laters.

Nice story :)
I've watched the animation a few times ,and I think it's funnier every time I see it; probably because I keep noticing new details :) (Love the sounds btw)
Are you also going to give your 3d character a long nose?Because I think he'll be better of the way he is now ...

Thanks for the positive comments guys! I've worked a bit on the fat and teeth, looks a lot better, but can't upload it because our uni servers are being defragged over the weekend. The other characters are mostly built, I'll try to get some pics online next week. Here's what the 2d section looks like so far:

Dan - saw Chris' stuff when he popped into uni the other day, the scripted wings for his bird look very impressive - I think your piece will be something pretty special mate :)

Cheers dude! But, end of the day...i aint pushing any boundries with what im doing, not like what your doing. Modelers/texture monkeys are dime a dozen, unlike the proper animatrors on the course like yourself ; )

Dont think your gonna be finding it hard to get a job, me thinks.

Dan - if you're not one of the first people to get a job, I'll eat my hat.

OK, pretty much final update on this - he's only on screen for 2 shots so... Kept the nose short and buldged the fat out - cheers Kuro  What do you think of the eyes?

Also been modelling other characters for the short, a quick lineup here:

And a first texture test of the paper man:

Still looking for a title for the short, as 'the other side' is a bit non-descript. If anyone has any ideas please post 'em!

I actualy like the title as it is. The title is already quite suggestive, but yet could have different meanings. That make sense? LOL

Carnt wait to see this and the other stuff tomorrow and wednesday.

The nose is perfect actually, fits right in!
Eyes look evil.... (I like! I like!)
You did a nice job with the fat hehe ,and the other characters look really cool. The sheep is amazing... hehe .
The only thing bothering me is the lack of detail the sheppard (probably not written correctly) has.The dress I mean.
When a long dress touches the ground it makes these folds, that get bigger towarsd the ground.Don't really know how to explain:shrug: sorry
The render is nice, looks the way it should be :)
The title is good,keep it

hmmmm what can I say? isnt there a nice sheepy animation around here somewhere done by one of the stars of the Msc course? :p

the face on your guy looks really cool, i'm not 100% on the texture on the evil one mate. Something isnt quite sitting right on it.

maybe another shinier layer on the texture to make it seem slimy would be cool.

I'll come in and chat with you about it

:)

Hey, sorry for no replies for a while, been getting my head down!

Kuro - you right that the detail of the shepherdess is pretty minimal, I'm trying to find some kind of simplified style, hopefully with a detailed texture it'll work ok, if not, folds it is.

lord_rms - NbC is definitely an influence, being compared to that is very flattering. I'm trying to come up with my own style, but that'll take a while I guess. Other inspiration includes animators like the Bolex Brothers, Aardman, Boring3d, Explodingdog, Dave McKean, Terry Gilliam, the list goes on...

Pure_Morning - despite having a silly name you're spot on with the slime idea ;-) Will have to investigate specular maps or something like that...

So quick update - pretty much finished the characters apart from face morphs which I'll do on the fly, and had great fun working out marking sets in XSI for the synoptics, should make the animation a hell of a lot easier. Just finished a very rough test walk cycle to see how the rig worked, which you're welcome to laugh at here:

http:\\mattmos.com\images\testwalk.avi

(cinepak codec, 640kb odd, only 17 frames so loop it)

There's too many problems to mention, and have to find a way to make him walk like he does in 2d, which is basically sideways... hmmm....
