+ Thinkinetic is proud to announce the release of Pdi! 1.0 (Pull down it!), a new plugin for Autodesk 3ds Max and Maya. Pull down it! is a brand new dynamics solver which allows for the creation of fractures as well as massive rigid bodies simulations. By using its technology digital artists are able to simulate fast and easily scenes made of thousands of objects and collapse buildings, bridges or any kind of brittle material.

is it voronoi-based?

is it voronoi-based?

Not at all, it is and adaptation of Hoke law for fast brittle fracture.

Cool!
I always encourage new tools & technology!
btw also have check with this new plugin tool for fracture & shatter & also it can handle softbody Simualtion:
its based on Digital Molecular matter & its been widely used in games..
its called DMM plugin or engine, have check:

& another new set of tool called "Ruins " for maya

looks cool and it's fast!

but:

-when i open sample with Chair falling all chairs disappear when colide with ground !?
when i setup it myself i do the same thing :( when i use convex hull it simulate quite well
i even got this disappearing with bunch of cubes :/

- stucco examle don't work for me either :/

- when i want to setup ground in truck vs tower sample scene i've got faltal error every time :/ i do exacly the same what i see in tutorial :/

- windows at start have wrong size what i mean some buttons are hidden, like in "set up fracture body" it almost all hiddden :/

- how to move pdi body after it is created? when i go back to frame 1 it jump bact to it's orginal position/ orientatnion/ scale

my configuration:

Vistax64 maya 2009x64
play every frame - 24/s

and about web page: :)

- i can't download tutorials pdf files it give me error:

Error:
Error downloading file 'BreakASolidStructureMaya.pdf'.
Back

same thing was with video files but it fixed now :)

- when i using normal buton on bottom not flash on top to go to "Pro" section it give me error
it should have addres
http://www.pulldownit.com/pulldownit-pro.php
not
http://www.pulldownit.com/pullitdown-pro.php

and btw i think pullitdown sound cooler than pulldownit and it's easier to remember :)

- forum " not flash" link also not work

thats it for now :)

cheers!

-edit-
one last question there is any manual to download?
i can figure it out but i the end i would like to know what am i doing :)

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the repport by Dariusz Lacheta (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=300556), the fail tutorials are already uploaded again and we will fix the other issues in the web next monday.

There is a strange problem with the Maya 2009 64 version and collision by mesh, it works fine in all the other versions, we will fix it as soon as possible and upload again , we will announce it in our site when fixed, sorry by the incoveniences.

Sorry, I could also confirm the mesh problem, crashed, and I hadn't spent much time with it, didn't even go throug the tuts. I just mention it, as I also had been testing Dynamica , and it also had an issue with the combination of 64bit and the mesh option.

The Maya 2009 64 version has been updated, could you confirn it is working properly now?

thanks

Sorry I am busy, but I did give it a quick shot, and I didn't get an outright crash this time, but rather an error stating "Error Select at least 2 valid nodes". But, it has frozen Maya, and all I get is an error tone, after trying anything.

I will have time early this week to actually go through the tutorial and test it properly. But right now, this is what happens likely when you use the wrong workflow.

Prior to this, I couldn't setup the collissions, but what seems interesting, is that the rbd, in this case a sphere (original huh?), seems to disappear onces it passes through, either the collision object, or through the Maya plane (-z values).

all for now.

i test it and it seems that it's working now :)
there is no problem with mesh sims
i recreate "tower vs track" sim and also work fine but when i open configured scene i've got fatal error and maya crush i think that there is something wrong with scene :/
so yes it's working now :)

and i have one question how to damp sim when everything layingo on the ground? it's still doing some small movements and don't want to rest in pieces :)

the plug-in is really useful!

just one problem
I have a vehicle with ~50 parts, I put it into a fracture body to hold all parts , its was good while simulating, the car keep in one piece until its smash.

but after I bake it using the "bake pdi simulation", I can't see the fracture body works, the whole car just falling apart right after frame 1.

Seems the baking in pdi menu has problem in baking the fracture body

Do anyone have any solution?

Im almost sure the problem is the way Maya interpolates keys once generated. Try this, select the whole car then open the curve editor in Maya and set tangents->stepped for all pieces, play the simulation again to see if the problem has disapeared,

You are right...thanks so much~

And I have another problem....can I creat a fracture body containing another fracture body?
The situation is.....I have a car to break down, I hope the windows are easier to break apart but the other parts(like doors, bumpers etc)are be more rigid. But seems I can't have two break threshold under one single fracture body. And if I seperate them into 2 fracture bodies, the windows will fall from the window frames automatically

can I do it under the basic fracture or I need advance fracture?
THX so much anyway~

Hi Vincent,

The ability to have different break treshold in the same fracture body is only avaliable in the pro version of Pull down it, I think this is the case with your car with glass and metal materials.

hi again Vincent,

Just in case , are you relative of Kelvin Chung? , Kelvin is one of the best researcher in collision detection, I adore all his papers.

There are tons of Chung in HongKong! :P

Thanks anyway~

Don't know whether its a bug or not
If a fracture body contains any passive object
it cannot detect any collision with animated mesh

DynamicBoy

you are right Vincent, this is a bug and it is already solved in the 1.1 version.
