View Full Version : Character : A Pirate of the Caribbean

In light of the recent revival of all that is swashbuckling and dangerous, all I have to say is YEEeearre, and
enjoy this pic that was very fun to paint, trying to capture a personality and
expression of "What...take me on....hah!!", a type of character that is
both a good leader, yet highly dangerous, a painting that explores a new
technique for me, and crits and comments are welcomed and appreciated.
Thanks, and enjoy!

That's absolutely gorgeous! I want that poster on my wall.
Very nice painting!
My only note is that the perspective of the barrel in the forground is way off.:p

JVI i k e l - Thank you very much!
xzevlin - The size of this one ended up 24 x 36. My biggest one in the past has only ended up around 11 x 17...so part of the challenge of this was making a big painting, and not getting lost when looking at it. Real fun to work bigger, heh.
Rosh - Thanks. You're prolly right with the barrel. It was a tough scene to create accurate perspective with. I had first painted the character on the deck, and I knew I needed something to break up that deck. So i layed out a grate in Maya, with what I had so far in the camera view, and found out then, that I'd have to stretch the lens a bit to achieve the same perspective. But it worked, except for the barrel, heh. I'll try and fix it up before putting the finished stamp on it.
Pgraphics - Thanks!
Katon - Did this 99% in Photoshop except for the grate, in Maya, which I ended up painting over anyway. Some mirror ref for face, hands, and shirt folds, but other than that...just fun seeing what happens.
long mao - arrrr!
William b. Hand - Aye, perhaps they are, but hopefully he's just got small feet, =)
