hey guys.. late again but i don't care! I will finish ;)
Im about to start my concept right now.. Ill post some images later this day or tomorrow
i wanna do something along the lines of an angelic dragonic demon goat-like avian... i know it sounds totally weird and contradictory but i have something cool in my head, see if it comes out.
::LATEST UPDATE::
Thank you very much guys  i really appreciate your support and concerns about my health, the truth is that right now im only suffering from fatigue, and was a little depressed about the fact that i wasn't gonna make the deadline because of my greed! (that 4 day job got me enough for a core i7 build and my next wacom)
I just say in the dw website that they extended the deadline..
CHALLENGE DEADLINE:
11:59 p.m Eastern Time, Monday, May 18th, 2009
I want to enjoy the ride from now on, so im gonna take it lightly.
Thanks again guys and the best to you!
::PREVIOUS POST::
gracias jorge :D, me siento mucho mejor hoy
I've tried what you suggested but i think it doesn't work for me, though im short in time im really trying to get some decent concept to give me a good idea before modeling :D but i am using references of things i like
well this is not decent as i would like but we are near the deadline, at this point i would use the lines as reference to start rendering the shapes and surfaces but F it :argh:
the scribblings in the armor illustrate where weird alien shapes will be
I'm still going to make some changes in balance and proportion and add more things in 3d.
I have all day free tomorrow so Ill start modeling...

looking good! I'm also doing some what of a mutation and something that helps is doing a heavy duty anatomy study and a lot of reference, it makes the creature come together in harmony and in a way that would work (by the way i don't feel i have achieved this, but its a challenge). keep it up! :D

I like the idea, I think this thing could look pretty sweet with some angelic sacred type looking armor.
Btw, don't worry, I started late too. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

hey sergio,
in my oppinion you should make the skin more interesting.. patterns, scales, ect. Look at some fishes and reptiles they have very interesting skins and matterns. In addition with the armor it will look stunning.:scream:
all the best
Hey Sergio,
Cool start my friend , like a lot your concept. Your norm dragon has a very cool medieval feel, really nice!! You can add not only an armor, maybe some floating magic jwell, only a silly idea :D Waiting for more updates! Cheers my friend!!

Kenneth: thanks dude, i will try to make very elaborate patterns of golden bevels, hoping that makes the armor look a little more "majestic"
Michael: thanks for your suggestion dude! i will do than :D i guess i didn't think much of the skin at first since i didn't know the coverage that the armor would have, but now i know :D
Fernando: gracias fer por tu sugerencia :D i gave him parts of his old master tha he has slayed himself as a magical object the main part is in his chest that may provide the power of flight :D but in this concept i only did him in that pose because... no reason really :argh: i just liked it, but the character will walk with his own legs.. i feel like this character is some kind of monk that kwnows alot about some kind of weird dragon martial arts.
i started working on the base of the armors, i was thinking of making it a full body armor but then thought that this kind of creature and being a Clericon wouldn't like that type of armor.. so i kinda like how the configuration of the armor is right now without a mid or legs section, it has shoulder and nech shields and a skull of his own master slayed by him to obtain power :) thats just how this creatures do it, but also tha skull is is main weakpoint, if its destroied the creture has very limited powers.
i will take Michael's suggestion of making the skin more interesting with scales etc.. but im still not sure of the color pallet i will use..

I like your charicter, totally original. On a very personal note, I think something is stifling your progress. you seem to still be working on the same idea you originally came up with instead of playing around with the design and trying new things. I don't know about you but thats what happen to me and the counsel Gerardo gave relay made a world of a difrence, I know this was written for me and it may not apply to you at all, but I'm adding it just in case you find it as interesting as I did. All the best amigo, hope to see more.
(by Gerardo)
First, when one is starting out, its easy to get carried away with the excitement and try to get everything done in your first sketch: general anatomy, character design, value study, color study, persepective, pose, detail, feel, and so forth. That's not the best way to go when one has little experince, cause it's too overwhelming (sabés lo que dicen, el que mucho abarca poco aprieta) and the quality of your work drops.
So my advice would be: start easy, with just line drawings of your characters in a neutral pose, and using a simple angle (side, front), so that you don't have to worry about perspective. On that base, you can start to build up the design, and its like you are teaching yourself how to draw the character. Once you feel confident about drawing it from simple angles, then go on to perspective, and once you've done that you can start worring about the pose and feeling. I'm not trying to critisize your pose studies, which were good, but i think it's too early for them.
It's definetly more laborious and a bit boring to do all these steps, but taking babysteps is a sure way to improvement. So try to pace yoursef and get back to the basics!
Espero que te sirva mi pequeño consejo, te lo digo por experiencia propia, muchísimas veces he tratado de hacer todo de una, y finalmente uno no logra transferir la idea que tiene en la cabeza al papel y termina odiando sus propios diseños.
Hey Sergio,
Cool update! Like the armor for the dragon, looking really great! and like the design for the wings, cool touch! Waiting for more updates!! Cheers my friend!! + tequila !! :D

Daniel: hey man thanks for the advice :D , those are very wise words by gerardo, i did do a lot of sketches of this character and others before actually staring to render this one, but i just realized that since im gonna do it in 3d it doesn't really need to be that elaborate, i tend to be more creative while sculpting so alot of the proportions and anatomy of this sketch would change.
I'll show all the sketches later and the alternative armors :argh: hopefully you guys could tell me which ones you like best :D because i really need to make a decision and start modeling...
Fernando: thnx man  Tequila x2

anyways i think im gonna stop developing that dragon because i got a cooler idea in mind :D its still kinda the same creature but you'll see..

Hi sergio, I think your rendering of skin and metal textures was superb. The variations in the hues of the skin are also great, specially for a close up. This critter is gonna turn out fantastic!
Mucha suerte!

i think youre landing some cool ideas for your character, but maybe instead using a lot of time trying to draw u can gather a lot of pictures and just try to put together what comes into your mind..like a lkittle frankenstein, and just style and fit everything together as you go modeling. thats what i did because i have to say i suck on drawing lol, im suuuper slow at it, other thing i do is try to make a rough modeling in zb ..really quick one and make paint over clues on what i want, hope this helps a bit bro. i want to see some 3d! ill be watching man.

WOW im back! i had to go on a little trip south on a job! im sorry i could do any ANY work for this project.
We only have 7 days 3 minutes LOL... im gonna have to pull a miracle if i want to finish this in time, or i could just withdraw form the comp because i don't wanna do things in haste, the result of that could be disastrous!
i was planning to do this in very hi ress but i might go for a purely painted colorfull look..
i need some advise..

Dude, I really hope your're fine and remember that health comes first, so don't stress yourself too much! I think that with this deadline, your new character will be tons easier to model and paint. I really don't know s* about 3D applications, having said that, it probably will be wiser to stay with a low res model and go for an interesting texturing-paint.
I would tell you not to withdraw from the competition, but as I said, health comes first so don't push yourself too hard, OK? te lo digo como futuro profesional de la salud...;)
Take care.

I agree with Ger, one of the main things is to enjoy thins whole thing (I tend to take thing to sereously, so this is what I always try to remind myself). But if you have enought time, I would go for somthing simple but well done, whatever that may be for you. It's been great having you around so far, todo lo mejor viejo, y como dice el amigo Fer, madate un tequi y disfrutala, un gran abrazo.
