lessthanhumanz 04-09-2009, 07:08 AM Edited: Sorry for the rude intrusion. I am Fzng, 19 from Singapore currently studying Digital Media Design Majoring in Animation ( I actually don't really like animating more like Illustration ). I was seriously very lazy ( even now when I am writing. I got very bad time management ) and really got looked down by my teachers. Its really my Redemption.
Thanks for viewing and comments I really appreciate this ( Sorry for my bad english )
I got C for cambridge paper
After being inspired by Miss Rebecca Kimmel, I decided to start my own sketchbook here.
Another reason was being condemn by my school teacher and also my mediocre result. Sorry if I make any mistake and please notify me as this is my first post.
Below are some master drawings and some drawing from reference.

lessthanhumanz, welcome. :) Why were you condemned by your teacher? Your drawings have a lot of potential, we all have plenty of room for improvement. Keep going, I'd like to see you do some anatomy studies from books to push your understanding of form. Nice work, looking forward to more.

Thanks Ms Rebeccak, I have a few drawings 2 months back that was quite bad actually. I thought I did like to find that sketchbook and scan some to let you see. I admit myself it was quite bad. I really thank you for your time to view my thread and hope you can also do so in the future. :D
Thanks Ms Intervain, I think my forms are weak and my lines are abit unstable. Your gallery is 1 of da' best :D
I actually can only fit 2 form studies in 1 A4 paper, I can't really control the size. I realize my form is weak and thanks Ms Rebeccak for the advice to start doing form studies.

Sorry took so long to reply, My Scanner got some problem it crashes everytime.
Here are 2 page sketches at the end of the 1 sketch book that was shown to my teacher and its only a few months back. The feedback was very heart pain for me. I know the drawing was bad but didn't know it was bad till he said he was going to fail me if I continue drawing like this.

You've got some nice stuff going here! You seem to have a pretty intuitive response to drawing, it's a matter of time and practice and the persistence to keep going.
One thing I'd recommend trying is to trace some master drawings - not every detail, but try to pick out the major curves, from one side of the form to the other. The key is to really simplify and to see the major rhythms of the form without being bogged down with detail. Try to see if you can simplify master drawings - those by Michelangelo, Pontormo, Rubens, etc. - into a set of say 6-8 curved lines that represent the major rhythms of the form.
A great book I recommend is "Anatomy Lessons from the Great Masters" - simply because it has a good collection of master drawings which you can study.

I actually borrowed the wrong book instead i borrowed "Drawing Lessons from the Great Masters". I watched Glenn Vilppu rythme dvd and it was great.

Nice studies in here. I'd suggest you to study more the muscles and bones themselves, not just the surface anatomy. As it's the origins and insertions of the muscles that matter, their form. A lot of spaghetti in there, but it's all fun :)
Bumskee sure is awesome. Done quite a few studies after him myself. There's loads of stuff one can learn from his work.
Keep at it!

Hey, no problem. A few links that you might find useful: ONE (http://www.reybustos.com/03ra/ra.html) TWO (http://web.mac.com/hensleymichael/iWeb/Humanis%20Anatomicae%20-%20Michael%20M.%20Hensley/Folio%20I.html) THREE (http://www.getbodysmart.com/ap/muscularsystem/menu/menu.html)
Watch the proportions. Overall a great job with these studies. Make sure you get something inside your head with each of those :arteest:

You're doing well with your studies, nice to see your updates. :) I'd say that some of the forms seem a little short / truncated - proportions take time, try tracing a few of the references every so often to get a feel for proportions - but mainly it's training your eye through exercises and life drawing that we're able to better judge proportions. Your drawings have a nice quality, one thing I might suggest is slightly relaxing the line - try getting a little more fluidity into the drawings and elongating them a little bit. Keep going. :)

Thanks Calc, you made my day.
I also appreciate you taking your time to view my thread. Thanks
But I feel like sometimes I can't get motivated for long, it just fades off pretty quickly.
At the same time I feel bad whenever I don't post everday cause its like I am left behind.
I just need to keep myself getting inspired and motivated all the time.
I know I have very much to catch up and I am taking my time.
Today my friend viewed my sketchbook and saw me drawing the bones and he ask me the names and I can't reply and he say it was pointless and I got quite upset so I plan to remember them by drawing them again and hopefully do more muscles and masters.
I am sorry for writing so long but I thought I need to say
“I've always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come. I don't do things half-heartedly. Because I know if I do, then I can expect half-hearted results.”

Have you tried wet media? (eg bistre, ink,...)
Soft media like charcoal and chalk (pastel) are also very much fun to work with.
Each medium needs some practice, but it's all fun!
