Hi I'm posting this in a few forums because I really don't know what is causing the issue I'm experiencing. If you look at the attached image you can see that there is some strange shading on the eyelids of my character. This only occurs when I use a blendshape. I've used blendshapes before but never had an issue like this. I've checked the normals, checked my render settings in mental ray and even tried attaching a new material. Nothing seems to work. The original mesh and the blendshape meshes all have soft edges. Everything else in the scene has perfect shading including this character until I use a blendshape. I've got ray traced shadows and I'm using Maya 2008. I exported the original geometry into Zbrush and sculpted all the different facial expressions, then imported the expressions into maya as .objs and then created the blendshapes in Maya. Can someone please help me? I'm against a very tight deadline to get this project done and I'm beating my head against the wall. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

either your normals are off.... go to "normals" -> "set to face" and see if that helps
or your shader is strange - delete it, or just use default lambert shader to see if it's ok in the OpenGL.

Thanks Marin! I thought the normals were fine because they were all facing the same direction. At least that is what I saw when I turned on show face normals? Anyway "set to face" worked. :) So I'm very grateful! Thanks for your great advice. I owe you one!
