I got the free 15 day trial demo of shaghair so I can finish my head look:

Hmm, I think this was your first experience with shag.

At this point of modelling, it's hard to critique anything at all, but maybe...
So the hair seems to be a bit dense, more like extreme dense, the hair nature is only visible on the ends of the "massive hair clumps", like it was only a poly model, especially the " hair cap" on top of your head.
Maybe some randomness, and bigger variation in size, length would be nice...
Also, try mapping the hair length, studie a real head, e.g. around the ear there are some really short hairs even on a long haired person...
With some experience with shag, I think you should use more model hairs, 20-30 would be suitable to locvalize hair shape and bending....

The clump on the right seems to be O.K, maybe because of the specular: it reveals the hairs clearly.

And also to see the upcoming result, put some lights into the scene! (with hair shadow casting) So you can see the hair shape more correctly... This is useful to begin hair modelling with shag.

Another comment: the specularity of the hair could be a bit stronger...

Are some comment on the head welcomed too? ;)

15 days? :) Well, don't even try to sleep during the next 2 weeks, and Gooood luck!

hehe thanks, yup compliments on the head are welcome too :p hehe, I will try to make it more visible on the top instead of just one color clump

Do you want a cartoonish head, or a realistic one? Cause if it's going to be cartoonish, than I think the model is OK, maybe some facial expression, sadness, hapiness, a death look (yeah, yeah!)... :) And one thing: the small sphere, in the corner of each eye! It's essential...

And if it's ment to be a realistic head, than you shold look up some reference, it's too relaxed, and maybe some additiional detal wold be nice, like the mouth is a bit sharp, and the eyebrow too, but the main problem is with the proportions, so you really shold look up some reference, some anatomy studie, or just look in the mirror for basic of the human head...

Hope to see the progress, good luck!

I think my 3d model is just about complete, what do you say?

aldaryn: what do you mean the small sphere in the corner of each eye?

If you think the modelling is compleated, nobody can argue. :)

But the eye still should be tuned up a bit: Just look at some photo, or into the mirror, how smooth the skin follows the shape of the eyeball. The small "sphere", (Really sorry, 'bout the lack of my english knowiledge, but I don't even know what this small thingee is called in hungarian, to find a translation....) I've talked about, can be found in the corner of the eyeball next to the nose, and it's really missing...

So some adjustments to the sorrounding skin near the eye should be done. E.g. some folds could be added, or some depth to the eye itself. (A bit more inset...)

But don't forget, it's finished, when You think so!....
