View Full Version : [?] does scene motion blur work with expressions?
Hi all,
I've some issues with scene motion blur and expressions. Objects animated by expressions are not blured. C4D just won't calculate the inbetween steps for objects animated by expressions. Sure I may bake all those objects, but it would be a pain as I have shiploads of them in my scene. Is there somebody out there who can tell me wether SMB works or works not with expressions (its the same behaviour for COFFEE and Xpressp BTW). Many, many thanx in advance,
cheers mnu

depends what you're doing with the expression. for me it works just fine, but then as i say, it really does depend on what you're doing.

Maybe you have to change the priority of the expression tag to animatin for example.
I think that depends on how you write your expressions.
SMB just simply renders your scene at frame 0, 0.20, 0.40, 0.60 and 0.80 (if you are using 5x SMB with 100% strength) for example, so if your expressions handle fractional frame numbers they should work with SMB.
If you use integer frame numbers to drive your expressions, SMB will not blur the resultant animation.
Hope this helps.

I think Pate's explanation is true, because usually expressions are calculated frame by frame or based on other operations such as view updates.
But problem is whether calculations in between frames are possible or not for expressions...
Surely expressions can specify document time, but this doesn't seem to drive expressions.
One way may be to transform expressions to keyframes (i.e., baking expressions).
BTW, is there any command or plugin for baking expressions?
Otherwise, we should make all keyframes for expressions by hand.
