Hey Levitateme,
I've never really used MB, so I dont really understand what you mean by layers. Dont you want to just explain what exactly those layers do and how it works in MB? Maybe then I can help. When you say layers I automatically think display and render layers:)
Thanks!

on highend someone told me that is what the trax editor is used for. i gave a example like this
on layer 1 your character does his walk cycle
on layer 2 you just modifying the root, so you animate him moving up and down. that way when he steps he bobs up and down.
this way if you want to alter the animation for the root its on one layer, you dont have any other keys bothering you. best way i can explain it, but if the trax editor does that i havenothing to worry about i just hanve read up on how it works yet. later il check highend maybe there is something like this like a plugin/mel dont konw.

Okay, I understand what you saying now.
Yeah, it's true the trax editor does do this. You can blend clips and it works the way you explained. I dont really use trax, but if you read the Maya documentation it'll actually explain prefectly how you can do this. It's basically just called blending clips and it takes two different clips and blends the animation. You can then go and change each clip seperately.
