Hey guys,

Whoa, I finally have something new I can show :)

This is an illustration done for a book cover (with the same name), thus bear in mind the global composition is quite off - that is because the image will be cropped and then splitted in two, so I had to make a subject for both the right part and the center part.

This was a fun project spanned over 2 weeks :)

Technique wise, most of the terrain is painted, as well as some of the buildings, ships and many of the light details.

I used refs for the sky and some buildings and Greeble for parts of Ideo Sector (left).

Thanks for viewing and looking forward to hear your thoughts!

hey , this is a really nice matte painting, I love the city , the concept, exposure and colors are awesome, I really like it, I'm not sure about the mountains, they don't match your city photo exposure
great attention to detail I definitely can see improve in your work from your last images
keep up the good work and show us some breakdown :)

Thanks James, really glad to hear that.

A breakdown - definitely - I saved enough wips for a making of, but I need to find time for it :)

that's a really good matte!
I agree with Jaime about the bg mountains, though.
They need to be pushed into the bg more and I think their scale is a bit off, too. On the one hand they must be massive as they're towering quite a bit above even the tallest buildings, on the other hand though, they don't really have the surface and depth/atmospheric properties that would make them interpretable as such huge mountains. That's, however, only apparent on the right hand side in my opinion. Left looks alright!
Apart from that: good job!

great shot,I agree about those background mountains,I've always found it hard to put a mountain range behind a cityscape & have it work, the left side feels more solid that the right.
love all the city lights too, they realy came out well.
also very cool to see the greeble blocks being used in a matte painting!
