View Full Version : Dominance War 3 winner - Animation
dalvarez 04-06-2009, 04:53 AM Hi!
I recently did some animations using Dmitry Parkin's DW3 model (he posted it for free on his website). I'll probably do some more, once I rig up the face. Either way, here it is! Any feedback would be nice.

Wooo, the fighting anim is real nice. Love the little touches, like the leg shudder as the big guy tries to get back up. Brutal!

Man that fight is bad ass, can you render it to a .MOV so we can see the frame by frame animation. Very inspirational.

ragdoll: Haha ok! But you'll have to be patient!
My Fault: Thanks! Yes, I put a lot of effort into this piece. The current render/camera angle doesn't do it justice so I'll redo that eventually. But even with such a zoomed out view, my hope is that the animation shines.
nmcelmury: Haha thanks! And yeah.. BADASS was my goal, I actually said those words many times when describing this animation to friends of mine. ;)
squall787: Thanks a lot. I know I feel so good when another piece of animation inspires me, so I'm really glad that this one does that for you. While I have a bunch of different renders on my home machine.. (and rendered out at 720p), the cgsociety format is FLV, at 640x480.
I'll upload different versions when I polish the rest of the non-animation related things (environment, camera angle)

Yeah that was super rad! Just some things that stuck out to me though, at least from this angle, when the big dude hits the guy back, it isn't as clear as it could have been because it doesn't look like he intentional hits him, just swings his body and his arm happens to do so. I would just antic that arm back and up (and probably offset it from the body) a little more before the swing to make it look clear. Second, when the little guy kicks him in the face, his upper body arcs back and that looks kinda strange. It would have more impact if he was straight, or went into a straight pose from a curled up one or something.
It'd be cool to see some cool close up angles and crazy cuts and stuff too, like you said, so I look forward to seeing that if you get it done.

Micah-H: Thanks!
squall787: No not right now. I will have my website up and running in a month or so (time... precious time), and once I do, I can upload more work and proper quicktimes. I'm with you, if you can't step through every frame... what's the point?!
GrogMcGee: Hey thanks! Yes, more is coming, when I get off my ass and do a bit more work. :)
David-J: Thanks! Glad you like it.
mayazeus: Thank you!
DSAzeppelin: Cool, thanks. I'm happy you like it. Hopefully the next one I post will be even better!
anmKevin: Hey nice, thanks for the comments.
About the big guy, well yes, I played around a lot with this. In the end I had to call it complete. I had a time frame to do this in, and.. time was up.
I do completely agree with you. It needs a stronger feeling of impact. To be honest though.. it's not just the big guy, it's both of them that I would need to tweak. Oh well... lessons learned.
Now about the kick. There is a reason I chose the little guy to kick this way.
Initially, when I was thumbnailing this out, I had a very straight line of action. Typically, this bothers me, and I quickly changed it to something a bit more appealing.
But the real motivation for my pose choice was this; I wanted to show that this kick was *so* powerful that the little guy had to completely hyper-extend his body to the point where it also made him off balance in the air.
Someone that small versus a big a giant like that, would have to muster every ounce of adrenaline and strength to cause even a small amount of damage.
Now whether I made the right choice or not... is another discussion ;) but I was very aware of the choices I made. That's half the battle!
Brian Whitmire: Thanks! Are you talking about the "boot to the face" or the "gigantic club to the face"? haha.... poor big giant guy...

I watched it a few more times after I commented and yeah, it was kinda clear that's what you were going for. I don't know, it probably just depends on the angle. It's a really nice piece though, congrats!
