Well, I've put down the chopper motorcycle for a little bit, decided to work on an indy car...

Here's after a few hours of work, still much MUCH more detail to be added obviously, but figured I'd show ya what my time has been spent on.

are you understating the numer of hours, or do you mean by the word "few" a number around 10?

as I understand this is a "simple" box modeling procedure with meshsmooth

perhaps the modeling took you not so long, but achieving the final rendering (all the mapping, lights etc) ...

MY QUESTION:
how many hours did you actually spend working on this (honestly) ... and how can you be so fast?

[did you have a pre-made scene with the lights and materials?]

thank you :D

p.s. MINDBLOWING work :buttrock: keep it up !

This isn't box modeling. If I showed it to you from other angles you'd see that the entire car is hollow. It's a shell made from creating vertexes (very very quickly) from blueprints I found on the net, and then meshsmoothing the created polygons for the result. The real killer in the time is after the meshsmooth is applied, making it apply the correct way in every spot.

It might've been closer to 4 hours :)

As for the lighting, it's finalRender stage-0 HDRI lighting using the St. Peter's Cathedral HDRI map for now. I'm planning on showing this car zippin around a turn on a track so the map will probably change to an outside one later on.

Thanks for the reply,

Andrew

Nice work, Looks like a desktop model. I think some of the profiles got a bit too rounded after your meshsmoothing, like around your 'intake' areas on each side of the driver.

Cool, another fan of BMW Willams
But , it's montoya or Schumi ??
Make Schumi one if you don't know cos i already make Montoya's car

Also, for tires, model the tread cos here, we can see the side of the bump map :scream:

And the car isn't too wide for cockpit

Keep the same color for blue from the front wing (the HP and Feedex aren't same color ) but i think it's a deeper blue color for bmw ?? But i can get trouble ...

tyio you are truely an inspiration for me to try and do better with this model :)

Hopefully in the next few days I'll have some more time to put detail in and get started on the racetrack it's gonna be on.

Very nice rendering btw

I don't mean to sound too harsh, but it needs A LOT of work.

(I'm basing my critique off the FW25)

I'm going to start from the nose and work my way back.

The wing supports leading from the nose to the wing are too thick and too blended. Also, are they blending into the wing as well? The endplates also seem a bit off on the wing, I think you might be missing a downforce element on them.

The shape of the whole front is just off. Look at the real BMW/Williams car and you'll notice the profile of it is completely different. Your's seems to be a little too low and the curvature almost seems somewhat inverted. (if you're looking at from the side, where the tires are.) You are also missing the various antennae located on the car.

The wheels look too chrome like. The actual compound/alloy eludes me right now, but I believe most formula 1 wheels are magnesium based, but I could be wrong.

BARGE BOARDS! Where are they? (Barge boards are the "vanes" that are between the front wheels and the radiator intakes.

The air inlet above the cockpit is way too small. The overall design is flawed as well. Check some reference pics to see what I mean.

Okay, on to the side pods. Well, the inlets look okay, (though a bit thin on the bottom) but the rear really bothers me. The Williams/BMW car doesn't have that big "bump" in the rear. It's pretty much a "flat curve" if that makes sense. It tapers back towards the inside when viewed from above. Not sure if what I'm saying is making sense, so take a look at more reference pics to see what I mean.

The aerodynamic elements on the rear are completely wrong. Just look at reference pics.

Anyway, great start, like I said I don't mean to be harsh but I thought I'd try and point out what looked wrong to me.
