View Full Version : what is the way that i am modeling called?
Streamlight 07-11-2003, 05:54 AM Hey,
I model by starting with a poly and extruding it and merging the verts and spliting polys... my friend says that i am "patch modeling"
I thought that "patch modeling" was using splines and making sections of the face then combining them....
am I patch modeling or if not what is it called the way im modeling?
:)

I think you should get your friend to bet on a beer or something. Cause you are right :applause: you are "polygon modelling" or "box modelling"

Tell me if you win the bet.
Also remember -- How you get there doesn't matter, as long
as you get there.

thanks guys. yea thats what i thought. I gave him a bunch of links showing splines when patch modeling but he still didnt belive me. oh well, yea it doesnt matter how you get there... but you should know what the street is called. :)
hehe I think the confusion could possibly come from patches in 3d Studio Max, where there's a type of object called a patch, which is like a 'sheet' of polys whose shape is controlled by a set of bezier handles, and you can merge sheets together, and extrude other sheets off their edges, etc.... It's not as popular or as flexible as just standard poly modelling, but it shares a few similarities ;)

Heh heh righto. On that note here in India we have politicians renaming streets all the time after their familymembers, relatives, friends, dogs and such. So we refer to all street names as they were named by the British. Its especially amusing to tell the taxi driver that you want to go to Netaji Subhashchandra Road and he will blink at you and do a  Tell him, Marine Drive and voila he will take you there faster than Schumacher. As you can see Marine Drive is easire to remember than Neta..whatever.
