I am having a hard time wrapping my head around the cutting methods of Blender
Can someone please tell me what's the most similar Blender cut to 3dsmax's, or Wings3d's connect?

I suppose the cut tools under K-key,
But I find it much more comforable to use the W-key subdivide,
or the ctrl-R loopcut(also found under K-key[there are multiple options]).

the cut tool under k-key isn't really bad, but its just not as optimal as it would be,
if blender could support n-gons(currently it would create triangles).

hope this helps.

Thank you FKTT :)

The trouble is, I am trying to learn the modeling tools in order to learn and practice doing edgeloops. This being said I need to do individual cuts (one at a time). Reason why subdividing nor loopcut will help.
I guess I have underestimated the creation of 2 verts on 2 different edges to then connect them creating a new edge.
Actually, what about just that? How would you (assuming one can) add a new vertex on an existing edge? And, if you do it twice, can you connect these verts together then?

with W-key Subdivide:

after:

could use a bit more tweaking, but its nothing really hard,
and obviously the loops are placed. :)

Mmm, I see. Do you mind explaining how exactly you did it?
I just tried it and ended up with a whole bunch of additional edges I was not counting with
It doesn't have to be a complete loop, but at least show how to add a couple of edges to get the idea.

Thanks fktt,

Thanks to a BlenderNation (http://www.blendernation.com/tutorials/) video-tut I am learning that one can duplicate vertices and then connect them with the F key, creating a new edge! I think I'm on to something here! :bounce:

You can also rip edges of verts apart with the v key, it can come in handy for adding localised geometry.

Thank you handlebar :)
Yes, that and extruding verts and edges, and duplicating verts, and connecting verts with F, has come super handy.

One of my favorite tricks to creating an "edgeloop" while still maintaining quads is to select some faces, and press "e" (extrude region) and then left click immediately (or is it right click immediately? I've been animating instead of modelling the past few days hehehe.).

This results in the new vertices overlapping the originals. If you set Blender to follow Medians (instead of 3D Cursor) you can scale the new vertices around a new area without really affecting the smoothness of the object.

This also allows me to produce models with complex shapes but a low poly-count when combined with Cut.

CGIPadawan, mmm, that sounds complex but interesting, I'll give it a try.
Thanks for sharing CGIPadawan :)
