JRBarton 04-03-2009, 05:38 PM Hi gang,
This is my first Dominace War, Kind of getting a late start. For the moment I'm just saying I'm doing it and what race and class. Norm / Invoker. I have done a few sketches on paper so I'll post them later today. I plan to have my base mesh done by "Monday" hopefully if nothing comes up. So check back for images.
Thanks guys,
good luck to everyone.

yes!, it looks really good. the only thing i would like to see more is of the bottom half. it feels lacking some detail. besides that i really like the concept.

Yea you should put some intricate designs into the cloth over his legs. I'm thinking layers also, what if there are layers of cloth, to create the covering. That would give it more depth i think.

Thanks for the input guys.
I like the idea of layering the cloth. I will have to sketch it out. I plan to have detail along the bottom of the skirt I just didn't draw it in.

Here is my progress so far. I am in the process of redisgning the head so it will be up soon. Thinking about making him a Valkyrie type character. This is 3,500 tris so far. Still need to model his weapon and a head of course. The little box thing at the top will be a flame using alpha, not sure if I will keep it though. Any comment and or critiques are welcome.

I think this can be a really strong piece. To break up the silhouette I would use some other layers of cloth around his legs.
I think the wings make him look very powerful. I also like the feathers that are floating off of them, that adds a magic feel to the character. However I do still like the idea of the battle standard on his back. I wonder if there is still a way to incorporate something of that nature.
Can't wait to see his head! For some reason i imagine him having long hair...hmmm.
Keep it up!

Here is my latest. This is just my first pass at the head and helmet. I'm way behind so I'll do my best to catch up.
Numabrush (Matt) I plan to put the logo on his belt but if you have a sugestion I would love to hear it. I'm always open to advice and critiques.

This is looking great man! I totally love your sculpting style. Very sleak! The wings on the helmet are very nice and create a great silhouette.
I would keep laying with ideas on where to place the banners as you already know. I noticed that you also changed his stature a bit to make him not as big. Was that intentional or is your concept evolving? Just curious!
Looking great man, I think if you can keep moving forward your piece will be very strong. I think it will stand out because lots of people are making demons. And after a while all the demons look the same to me.
Take care!

this is coming along really nice.! i would like to see it without the helmet so i can see the face.

Whoah that is freaking awesome! I love the idea.
My suggestion would be to widen the width of the helmet. It looks a little tight for his head, as if it would be chafing his cheeks and squashing his head in.

Thanks for the feed back guys.
skylngtr22: I will post some shots of the head when I get home tonite. He only has half a head though :(
Hazzard65: I agree the helmet is a little narrow. The face got a little wider from sculpting so I'll def make it wider. Thanks for the crit.

Very cool, this guy has an Olympian God feel that I haven't seen around in other entries.
My only critique is that the upper part of the character has a lot of detail and structure, while the lower part is kinda simple. I think i needs some piece of armour or something down there to balance him out.

Here Are the latest sculpts. Still have a bit more to do on the skirt. Putting in details around the bottom. Should get the body and arms finished tonite.I also made the helmet a little wider.

Added more detail to the helmet.

What if you made hair coming out of the back of his helmet? That might be neat if you have the polys. Looking great!

Thanks for the comments guys.
Yes I have plenty of polies left for hair, may have to give that a try and see how it looks.

very nice sculptural approach :) if I would be you i would drop thge head size to a 7/8 head character, i did it on my Berith and it suddenly got a lot of power, i'm curious to see what's gonna happen next

StefanoDubay that's a good call on the height I'll def give that a go. I hope to have him in a pose by the end of the week holding off on the skirt till then. Next will be the arms and wings.
Thanks for the crit

good to hear.
However I always end up in trouble when building this things incrementally, head then torso then arms and so on.
What about sketching out the stuff quickly and then detailing when you can see the model altogether?
it is gonna help you out a lot, to figure out how to guide the looker's eyes in the composition even more if you have such an ornate armor on him.
keep it up, looks good :)

yet another mighty invoker, looks like we are gathering forces, and the demon horde better get ready. really I like this guy totally different
feel from all others, and thats important. I do agree with my friend Gerardo, that he needs more work on his lower part. not massive or overwhelming, but more of a interesting design for his clothes, or engravings. Maybe the first layer can be leather with interesting engravings and there can be thick cloak under it, with a cool border. no se, just an idea. all the best!

live2contage Thanks for the feedback. I really like the leather idea you have. I have been away for 2 days so I have some catch upwork to do. I'll def give the leather a go. Thanks again
