View Full Version : character:: yuji - ronin punk
ill_logic 07-10-2003, 05:22 PM hey all,
here's what i've been working on recently. this is a character i created a long time ago, but i'm finally getting around to modeling him now. he's sort of a street punk swordsman kind of guy (think a final fantasy with some heavy zatoichi & hip hop influences & you're pretty close! lol). i've included an old concept sketch, but i didn't use that as a reference.

the reference pics i did use were pretty bad, as far as angles & definition, so is there anything that looks like it needs fixing anatomy wise?
thanks in advance

Appart from things like the feet, which i assume you left like that on purpose, his ass looks a lil wierd to me, maybe a lil small im comparison to the rest of his muscles?
Anyways, i really like the inital sketches, so cant wait to see the model take more form :)

yeah, i probably should have mentioned that, sorry. the feet on him now are pretty much just for placeholding/reference. i didn't really start on any of the real detail below the kneecaps yet. i didn't give much of his lower body as much definition up top, because the pants i was going to give him were going to be a lot baggier than the shirt. i think i know what you're saying about the ass. i'll tweak it. thanks for pointing that out.
having been away from the model for a while, the shoulders look a bit odd to me now for some reason, i think i'll go back & tweak them a bit too.
anything else?

If you can model everything just like the sketchs....wooooo....I would love to see it man....

so i take it you want to see it a bit more stylized?
here's a closer look at the head by the way...

fixed him & started working on the clothes, pants first. still up for suggestions on the anatomy if anyone has any. i started to take a way some of the muscle because he seemed a little too chiseled.

thanks for the comments & i'm looking forward to more

In the first picture you posted the upper part of the pecs look a little strange. I think the lower part of the pecs should be a little higher. The armpit area needs to be a little more definined, the skin is a little 'baggy' there - blends into the arms from the chest. I'd just change that alitle - it might look a little strange when animated.
The character seems slightly anime....cool.

here's an update. thanks for the crit. i tried to fix some of the problems you mentioned, media munky. i tried to cut down the definition of his pecs & i pushed the verts in the armpit up into the arm. anything else still need alterations?

as for the clothes, these are just the basics, i was going to model wrinkles & the like after i mapped it. that way the details won't be symmetrical.

My two bits:
The chest plate makes him look a bit feminine in its current form. You may want to define the chest area a bit more sharply to change that.
It's moving along well.

ok, i guess i'll add a bit more definition again then. btw, that's just supposed to be the white part of his shirt, i just have that blinn on it so i know which polys are going to be a different color than the sleeves. aside from some very small details, his clothes won't be too out of the ordinary. i may still give his jacket shoulder plates, but that's if i even get around to doing the jacket. i think i might! lol  thanks for the suggestion, teyon.

lemme know. also added the hat. again, same thing applies with the wrinkles. i put the hat in now so i can start doing the hair... but that's after shoes & gloves first lol i'm getting back to work!
