View Full Version : Maya navigation in XSI
pauldryzen 07-10-2003, 02:22 PM Hi,
I have a question about the navigation in XSI.
My problem is that my main 3D programm is Maya, but right now I use XSI and every time I switch back to Maya... grrrrrrrrr 100 keyframes per second!
So I tried to change the navigation key in XSI from "s" to the "alt" key.
No Chance?, or am I to stupid?
A little help would be great! Could save me a lot of time!
and please, no XSI vs Maya discussion!!! I like them both!
Greetz and thanks,
Paul

Sorry, can't be done. When assigning shortcut keys, the Ctrl, Alt and Shift keys can only be used as key 'modifiers' and not on their own. Also these keys open up additional modes, when used with the 's' key (and others), so changing them is not a good idea anyway. You could try assigning one of the alphabet keys that are close to the alt key, like z or x, and use that..

Tach is right...but...
Transform>Tool Options>Camera tab is a check box labeled
"Use Alternate Mouse Mapping"
This sets up the mouse buttons to work exactly like Maya.
While you still have to use the S key to navigate, at least your mouse mapping will be like Maya's.

I have just started to explore XSI and have the same problem. I'm excited to learn that the mouse motions can be remapped to match and more than a little distressed to learn that the alt key can't be remapped. It is nice to have the alt key since it is right next to the hotbox button (err, I mean the space bar) but a possible solution I'm considering is remapping Maya instead of XSI. "s" never did seem like the best button for setting keys anyway.
