View Full Version : Detailing Model after Creation of UV Map?

Lately I was reading a chapter in Ken Brilliants book about modelling dinosaurs.
There he explained a method on UV Mapping I wonder if it would work with C3D too.

To map a complex shape, he suggests you first model the rough shape, then create the texture map. The UV polygons would be easily to manage now.
Then he continued modelling, happily adding detail to the model.

Has anybody tried this method with C4D?

thats a great idea, should try it myself sometime as I always roughout my character first before detailing. I see a few limits withit though, deleting and making new polys would be come a problem

Yeah, the problem is that certain polygon operations in Cinema will mess up your UV maps, namely extrusions of any kind.

I tryed the following and have found it perfect for modeling purposes:

Apply the flat map containing the would be modeled image as a reference pict onto a plane, adjust it to the desired size, then move the texture tag onto an empty polygon object then start modeling. U simply trace in place every vertex. U can do it with a side map also on two maps per an object way.

Lift the texture res value to the most visible level while keeping your machine swift.
