View Full Version : Xfrog 4 plug ??
raycerx 07-10-2003, 12:09 PM It seems as though the 'time' has run out on my beta Xfrog plug...
Does anyone know where or when the final version will be available? I checked there site and the only thing available for download is 'xfrog4_beta1.zip' under Cinema4D. I installed that but it doesn't show up... any news???
Thanks

I don't know if you can read german, but on 3dworkx they anounced today that a boxed-version of xfrog4 will be available very soon (unfortunatly no release-date mentioned)

Try the site again. The last time I looked (a few weeks ago), they had it in open beta, so all you had to do was download the newest beta.
That the boxed version is almost ready is good news, it's a great
L-System modeller, and the integration with Cinema is very elegant. Not only does it make working with XFrog easier, but it
also allows you to use Cinema objects directly within the XFrog nodes, which makes it infinitely more flexible.
It's also faster, all around.
That it's coming first to Cinema is, IMO, symptomatic of the fact that Cinema is getting a lot of (well-deserved) attention lately :)
Whoo, DarkTree + XFrog, and soon Jenna 2 and FBX... it's a good year to be a Maxon customer. :)

That I don't know, but the beta is fully functional.

XFrog 4 can actually be ordered by calling or emailing greenworks, so I doubt they'd give you a free upgrade from 3.5 at this point. The official release date is the 29th - that's when it's supposed to reach the resellers, etc. If you have a yahoo account you can check out all the prices in the XFrog group area posts.

Pretty reasonable considering the total rewrite and hugely expanded capabilities.

The upgrade price is very good ($99), if you ask me!
On another note does anyone have news of the FBX support?
this still has not really taken place it seems. Unless I have missed something.

not really cos it weights in at a third of final price.
but you do get added features/integration so i'm not gonna begrudge 99bucks really...but we are talking upgrade from 3.5 to 4.
how compatible is it with the old stuff....eg plants etc...or former creations.
those vids are cool...

But really, the new capabilities are quite substantial. The ability to use Cinema objects gives you some pretty Jenna-like capabilities, in addition to the great plants and trees.

It ought to make animation a lot easier, also.

I would expect so, but I don't know for sure.

I tried the beta with some old 3.5 trees and it worked perfectly. Not sure if that'll apply to all older models though.

The given link should not have been here yet.
From tomorrow evening, MET, you will be able to buy XFrog4. Plants collections will still open, but won't be changeable anymore in 4. But it will be possible to have 3.5 installed at the side of 4 on the same PC.
There will be a new collection of plants with it, and a good manual.
For owners of 3.5 there is no exact time-limit on the upgrade. If there is one, it is for side-graders who want to take both C4D8 and Xfrog4 together.
sigh...this is a must-have...
