Hi,

Let's discuss this fx how to make it great.

there are some references here.

the GroundDust is primary one which I want.

Btw, there're some youtube movies here.

the sweeping ground sand is easy just turn the snow fluid example into sand, and a big fluid sim for the big thing. Basically a big explosion. I'd do 3 sims with different settings and layer them together in comp

yup,

I want the fx more like a sand dune,

wind comes, and sands were moved up, like smoke and wave all mixed.

give it some tips.

In all honesty... us telling you how to do it is not going to expand you're knowledge of dynamics. Why not try just jumping into Maya and going for it?

Maybe you can try emitting particles from your surface, then drive this particles with a fluid and some air fields to simulate the wind. And finally emit some fluid with your particles to do the dust.

Hope that makes some sense,

Baalz

I done a scene file, but I tried many times, I want more details.

It looks like smoke but how I make it more like what I want? (where in top)

Please help me, thank you very much!

I made a quick test, just basic things to start you up.

To improve things, you'll need to refine the particle movement and increase a little bit the fluid density.

Hope that helps,

Baalz

Here are some new reference movies, have a look.

I try to make fluid fast , but I notice that are hard to keep its shape.

I want them move fast and still keeping their shape.

What attr should I set?

I done another one,

just have a look and say something please.

thanks!

Good looking sand storms are a bit more complex and it should start from a proper geometry!
If you're more into dune sand storms, I suggest you look at some good reference videos of dunes. here's one just for example:

http://www.bbcmotiongallery.com/Customer/SearchDetails.aspx?searchText=sand+storm&type=Simple&itemId=4abca69e-5971-4f35-b2ec-d05d84c0903d

In www.bbcmotiongallery.com you can find quite a lot really good examples.

As for the breakdown of something like that, you'll need at least few passes/different sand animation to make it look good:
1. You need the sand comming out of the peak of the dune. And from your examples, I see that you use something like a Cloud Shader. This is good, but you need also the point particles to give it more detail.
2. You need to greate a "Global" wind effect, that carries lots of little sand grains. This effect could be created with a combinations of texture and particles.
For the particles, you can use a simple object-based emitter with some wind and turbulence, with very short lifespan - just to give the feeling of something moving. And for the textures, you can use simple Noise texture, may be stretch it a bit to create something like wave-looking effect. Animate it moving along the wind direction and it should be really hardly visible. Sometimes thouse things are visible only in animation. I'll try to post an example a bit later.

not sure that this link is going to work. let me know if it doesn't.

It doesn't work, I think you should make sure your right web address. FTP is for upload/download in your own private server, but it should have its own open address there. Try to find it, good luck.

or try these,

Great work.

I am thinking another possibility here. Is it possible to make sand more close to surface of dune? Dont flow up too much. If you make it "wave by wave" will be more real in direction of reality.

example:

Anyway, you done a great job.

Thanks. The test was done really quickly and example you showed was definitely something I'd add!

My friend and I still work hard to try to make it.

Shape is primary problem in this case. How to make the shape, like hair spring and do not be blowed too high from surface, that will be our target now.
