Hi there, first post here, Im new to this amazing community : )

Im trying to achieve this look in terms of texture definition:

Specially focus on characters faces, the texture is really crisp and with great definition.
These images are taken of "MySims Kingdom".

The thing is that I haven't been able to get that look on my render, the texture always seems to be a bit blury:

Im using Maya's MentalRay to render. Using only the default light. The texture is a .jpg.

Any help on how to get that crisp definition on textures as the ones in MySims?
Thanks in advance,

72.

use a higher resolution texture or check the filtering that is used by maya/mentalray.

maybe their eyebrows are geometry?

Yep, that was the problem : D

First I did a ridicously huge texture to see if that was the problem (5kx5k). The image keep looking a little blury, so I checked all the options of the node and I found it: The goddamn default filter for the texture is a Quadratic! So, I clicked on the Filter attribute, set it off, and vualá, problem solved.

I did the same with my first texture, a small 800x600 one, and it looked crisp and defined, just as I needed.

So, in conclusion, it was about the filter, not the size of the texture : )

Thanks!!! Hope this helps to more people. : )

Have you thought about building the textures in a vector program and having them collapsed to raster format at render time, or having several different resolution versions?

um.. Im afraid I didn't quite understand what you are refering to..

You mean like, using Adobe Illustrator to make a texture? (which btw, Im doing, but then I export that to jpg, so, the vector data dies). Is there a way to render vectors from an .ai file as a texture??
