Looks like some awesome stuff, in some ways glad I held off on ordering Animate!

I wish Toonboom would come out with a solid drawing animation program that isn't vector based.
There are some interesting products out there for bitmap drawing animation, and some of them have great drawing tools, but none of the UIs have the solid feel of most of the Toonboom stuff.

Is this software for a novice? I'm looking for something just to mess around with. (Not going to become an animator, just something to make short, retarded, five-second animations.)
I hear about Toon Boom all the time and was wondering if it is easy to use? Does anyone have a recommendation for something a newbie could use?
Thanks and I apologize if this is a threadjack.

For anybody doing drawn animation I'd recommend Digicel flipbook.
I do all my drawn animation in it and have for a few years now.
It is bitmap but has one of the most natural workflows. It feels very much
like doing hand drawn, flipping keys and timing your drawings is great in flipbook.
I have used Animate, I much prefer it to flash for digital clean up. It has a
little more natural feel to it with less nesting. I still prefer flipbbok for drawing
animation though. This pro version looks good but the price seems high. Like
most of toonboom's products. The TAB is the most natural feeling for me but
again pricey.
I do hand drawn and not really any cut out stuff so others may be better for that.

i've got toon boom studio 4.5 and it's pretty neat..i also bought a training video on it from amazon.co.u.k which realy helps you understand much of the workflow in toon boom also.

toon boom studio as very affordable plus there's upgrade to animate if/when you need it.
also for hand drawn pixel based animation have a look at tvpaint from www.tvpaint.com (http://www.tvpaint.com/)

The thing I can't wrap my head around is that if you're a current TBS 4.5 customer that it's cheaper to crossgrade to Animate first and Animate Pro second instead of crossgrading directly from TBS to Animate Pro. The joy of crossgrade promotions.... :D
It's also interesting to see the transition from Solo to Digital Pro and now to Animate Pro. When Toon Boom introduced Animate it really shook things up but made a lot of people curious on what differentiated Animate from Digital Pro. Now I think it makes a great product offering to have Toon Boom Studio, Animate, and Animate Pro round out the pack from hobbyist to professional.
